Isiah Thomas coming to Washington on a 1 year/$30M deal.

I'm OK with this because, he could possibly, POSSIBLY being the key word here, be an upgrade from John Wall.

I'm also OK with this because when I first heard this (as opposed to reading it) I thought they were bringing in the OTHER Isiah Thomas to take over the GM job from Ernie Grunfeld. (who has yet to be replaced, but, shit, an EMPTY CHAIR can do the job better than he did). So given the relief I felt that this is not the case, I'm even more hyped.

Thats fair that we will just agree to disagree. You do sound like my friend though when it comes to LeBron. He despised him and didnt think it made sense for him to leave Miami to go back to Cleveland. I said the same thing like the guy wanted to go back home so I cant fault him for that. I also get how you feel about KD and most people are going to always feel that way about him. The one thing I know though regardless is that Im glad Kyrie and KD didnt go to the Knicks. Now they can set their sights on 2021 in hopes to the Greek Freak only to be disappointed again.

^ It is amazing how no one is going to the Knicks, well top free agents. They have basically signed C to B level talent at best. I think a lot has to do with their owner. I never thought the Nets would be more of a destination than playing at the Garden. The Knicks are one of the most dysfunctional franchises in all of pro sports.

In this long-winded essay of yours on the last page, the part highlighted in bold got me LOL-ing. Uh, yeah, the Rams did a fantastic job in assuring their franchise player, RB Todd Gurley, was ready for the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl LIII.

By the way, what's his current situation? Has he resumed football activities or is he still limited to sideline treadmill riding?

James Dolan doesn't really care because MSG stays filled regardless of the talent on the floor. (or lack thereof) and the money keeps flowing in from TV regardless.

I mean, same thing with the Lakers, but they DO care about winning.

“There’s not a market for him,” Wojnarowski said. “I think he hoped a big-market team would strike out, have cap space — he could get a one-year, $12, $15 $18, $20 million dollar deal. That’s not happening.
“The mid-level exception he got in Golden State last year? I don’t think that’s there for him.”

Before you thought about typing that and pressing send, how many games have Gurley missed due to injury since coming into the league? Did he not have a good season and win OROY in 2015 coming off of an acl injury at UGA in 2014? On an supposedly bad knee is he not top 2 along with Zeke for most touches in the NFL since he got into the league? I get what you are saying but nobody is perfect. Last season everything was going well until Brown got hurt and that put even more pressure on Gurley because the Rams was managing him even before his injury which btw happened Week 1 got worst. Nobody really talks about his injury happened Week 1 because nobody wants to acknowledge the Rams did on hell of a job with Gurley which allowed him to kill it through most of the season before again Brown got hurt and then the Rams was stuck because they truly didnt have a reliable backup until they picked up CJA Week 15. Now they will get Brown back and they drafted Henderson so they can continue to manage Gurley and things will be fine. The only people that are even making a big deal about it is those who really dont know. The Rams arent making a huge deal about it. Peter King whom I trust when it comes to football isnt making a big deal about it but hey thats just me what do I know about the team I followed for now almost a decade lol.

^ I think the Rams will take a big step back in 2019. I have Seattle winning the division. Rams might sneak in as the 6 seed. Last two years...Atlanta went from 1 to 6 and the Eagles went 1 to 6. Saints go 1 and out Rams 2 to 6, maybe out I still gotta decide as we get closer to camp.

I apologize for kickstarting an NFL discussion in this thread...if we want to further debate Todd Gurley's disappearing act in last year's playoffs and the Rams' chances in 2019, we need to do so in the NFL thread.

As for the NBA...hard to imagine Kawhi Leonard NOT going to the Lakers at this point.

I agree we need to take NFL topic to the NFL thread I just was pointing out the medical team that is very important for the Nets and how they have one of if not the best medical staffs in the NBA and also have KD personal doctor on the staff so Im not really concern about him recovering and being back to close to himself.

I hope Kawhi doesnt sign with the Lakers because Id be so upset. He just led the Raptors to a championship and if he goes back the Raptors would have the same team and the East got worst at the top with the Sixers losing key pieces, the Celtics losing key pieces, and the Bucks losing key pieces. Kawhi could come back and take the Raptors again to the Finals with a chance to beat LeBron and AD provided the Lakers getting through a strong West. Plus in the spirit of competition Kawhi needs to stay in Toronto so the league can feel wide open. Id rather see big 2's than big 3's. As someone pointed out, KD to the Warriors years ago was odd just because the league had a 25m spike which help the Warriors have the money to get KD. It was the perfect storm for them to have that killer team. We are at a point where if Kawhi doesnt go to the Lakers we wont see another big 3 like that. So Kawhi please just stay in Toronto lol.

I agree Mass, I think Kawhi will go to the Lakers especially cuz he is from LA. Though as the days pass, I wonder if it makes it possible he signs with Toronto. Even for a 1 year deal. Maybe we will know more after the weekend.

Mystery solved! it took so long for an announcement/decision because he was waiting to see if a trade package for George could be accomplished.

So LA now has a real crosstown rivalry.

Y'all know what this means: a Russell Westbrook-Post-Mortem (the second in as many months!)

Thing is, Russ, right now, might just be as untradeable as John Wall and CP3.

There are alot of layers in pull back from this. First Ill start off by saying Im so glad Kawhi didnt go to the Lakers. Its a new day when Kawhi and George chooses to go to the Clippers rather than the Lakers. We already saw KD and Kyrie chose to go to the Nets rather than the Knicks. The message is that its not all about the Lakers and Knicks in those markets. Im so glad about that. Ive gotten Lakers and Knicks fatigue over the years and now the Nets and Clippers have positioned themselves where superstars want to be.

Now I love what the Clippers did getting Kawhi and George. Idk what that means for OKC because I didnt see him getting traded just because he just signed that big deal to stay in OKC last summer to help Westbrook. OKC got alot of assets but it means nothing for a team that wants to win now. The Clippers just like the Nets put themselves in position to win now where all they needed was those superstars to put them over the top. LeBron has another roadblock in his way so one has to say they arent the heavy favorites anymore. The Clippers imo are the favorites in the West. In 2020-2021 season Im predicting and LA v NY NBA Final but its the Clippers v Nets lol. Somewhere Shannon Sharpe is disappointed because he thought for sure Kawhi was going to be playing for the Lakers. Plus for everything we heard is that the Clippers were out of the mix as of yesterday so that just goes to show you not to believe what you hear. This a great day and Im loving it lol.

I agree that the Clippers are the favorites in the West. I trust Lenord and George staying healthy more than I do AD and LeBron. Makes for a great rivalry. Who knows what OKC will get with their draft picks. To me NBA picks are not as valuable as NFL picks. OKC should get rid of Westbrook. He is very overrated plus you can't win with him and he seems to chase other stars away. Notice how no one signs there. He will put up hollow numbers for a mediocre team. The East is wide open. Raptors might not even make the playoffs now.

What a pleasant surprise...Kawhi ain't coming back to the Raptors and he won't be playing for the Lakers!

C'mon, Sixers, the Eastern Conference is yours for the taking!

Oh, no, the Lakers got Boogie Cousins?

(That statement was sarcastic, just to be clear. I don't think he's a big deal anymore, and the fact that he only got a 1-year deal kind of proves that.)

As for the ramifactions of the Paul George trade, it'll be interesting to see if the Thunder can/will trade Russell Westbrook. I feel like there's gotta be at least one "desperate for attention" team out there that will want him.

^ I agree, Cousins has nothing left in the tank. He is old, slow, and injury prone...not a good signing. I wonder if the Knicks would pony up a shit ton of 1 round picks for Westbrook.

I really see all the Westbrook being traded news really pushing. Especially if Presti really wants to reset the Thunder after the PG trade. Though its going to be hard because outside of John Wall he has the most untradeable contract going. Though trading for him you're getting a top 15 player who has great durability despite having his game rely on his athleticism. Its actually quite fascinating how durable he's been with his play style. He's the ultimate outlier so far.

The question teams trading for him has to ask though is are you willing to build your team around a 30 year old PG that relys on said athleticism and ball dominance. Ironically, one of the teams in the rumors for him, Houston, would be the exact team he should be sent to. But that team has a top 5 ball dominant player already in James Harden. It would be early OKC again minus KD.

So KD came out today and is changing his number from 35 to 7 on the Nets. Kyrie is taking Brook Lopez's 11. As a Nets fan i kinda wish Kyrie went back to his 2 that he had in Cleveland, because in the end that 11 is damn sure going to be retired by the Nets as Brook Lopez's number. Saying that, if Kyrie/KD gets the Nets a title, then hat 11 is going to be retired for 2 players, and i'd be ok with that.

God i'm praying KD comes back at least 80% of the player he was before the achilles tear man. I'm looking towards Demarcus' play this upcoming season as a baseline. If he can come back 100% then i'm confident KD can with our training staff.

Seriously?

I know he was good, but I don't remember him being that good. Then again, there does seem to be a trend of NBA teams retiring the numbers of "okay" players...I remember the Thunder recently retired Nick Collison's number and the Cavaliers retired Zydrunas Ilgauskas' number a couple years ago.

^ Okay good, I'm not the only one thinking this cuz when I first read it I was like no way on God's green earth does he deserve to get his number retired. He is a decent NBA player, nothing more.

Keep in mind he Brook Lopez is the Nets all time leader in Points/Blocks/FG's and like second (sometimes third) in another 5 or 6 categories. Second only to Buck Williams in games played as a Net. He played 9 years here, most of the time as the teams best player, before he became Splash Mountain. (Thank the Nets for that BTW They let him let it fly his last year here)

^ I guess that shows the poor quality of players they've had over the years and they were a doormat for a long time. At least he wqs there longer than Durant in GS cuz they were talking about retiring his number which is laughable cuz he played there three seasons. Keep in mind I absolutely hate KD.

CP3 is likely to get traded to at least two more teams, each cutting out just a piece of that huge contract.

Last season Houston lost in the second round without Russell Westbrook so now since they have the most overrated player in basketball they will still lose in the second round. Two ball hogs on one team is not a recipe for success.

^ Ouch lol!!!! Im actually interested in seeing how Westbrook and Harden work together again. I dont think its going to be a disaster like alot of people think it will be. The only way I think it wont work is if Mike D'Antoni finds a way to screw it up. The Rockets are now heavily back into the title picture as opposed to fading from it with CP3 still on the team. Ive already stated on another site that the duo of Westbrook and Harden are a top 5 duo in the NBA and they have a strong supporting cast around them with Capella, Tucker, Gordon, etc... The West just got even more tougher with Westbrook going to the Rockets.

Not surprised Westbrook had Houston as his preferred destination. Him and Harden grew up in the LA AAU/HS BBall circuit and have known each other since they were 10 or 11. We'll see how it works.

You said it perfectly cuz Mike D'Antoni will screw it up for sure and it usually happens when it matters most. They should have fired him already. It sure will be the wild wild west.

Geez, Rockets GM Daryl Morey is just wingin' it now.

Of course, the BIG question is...will James Harden and Chris Paul continue to appear in State Farm commercials together?

No surprise there. It also wouldn't surprise me if he was traded in a year. I view this upcoming season as make-or-break for the duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid; if this team can't advance further in the playoffs, the Sixers will have to decide which one of the two should be traded. Despite their immense talents, they're actually quite incompatible because Simmons is at his best offensively when he can go to the post, but that means that Embiid has to stand around the 3-point line. That mess is what (partly) cost them the series against the Raptors.

Its insane to me that Bem Simmons got $170 million. He has as many three pointers as me...he is 0-17 in his career. I don't see him getting a jump shot all of a sudden. I haven't liked him back to his LSU days. I'm not high on the Sixers like others. I still see them with a second round exit next season.

"Simmons earnings ... dwarf anything earned by other Aussie basketball stars.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Andrew Bogut earned $US118 million in his entire, 15 season career and Spurs guard Patty Mills has accumulated $US48 million since he was drafted in 2009-10."
