They got another one year extension from the county so they'll stay there.

The joke in Patriots' world was 49ers handed Brown to them as a payback for the Garoppolo trade. Brown played well, beginning to end. Rumor was the 49ers let him go because he quit on them during 2017 season. He makes the other players look tiny.

Eagles made some great moves today starting with signing DT Malik Jackson who is an upgrade over recently departed Tim Jerigan. He will be great alongside Fletcher Cox. And DeSean Jackson returns home and now we finally have a deep threat. With poor QB play in TB last season Jackson still averaged 18.9 ypc. Now I can dust of my DeSean jersey.

Alos congarts to Nick Foles for cashing in...4 yr $88 million deal with $50 million guaranteed. So he has 50 million reasons to be happy when things go wrong in Jacksonville for him.

The Giants sent shockwaves around the league trading OBJ to the Browns for a 1st, 3rd, and S Jabreal Peppers. Before the trade I thought thr Browns would win the AFC North this coming season...now I really think they will take the division. As for the Giants as Mass stated thibgs are going to get worse before they get better. I guess they will take a QB in the first round and they might as well have him start after Eli has them 0-6. The Giants are literally starting at the bottom and I love it. Idk what they are doing. At this point they should get rid of Eli. Giants are gonna be dreadful...3 maybe 4 wins at best

When you put aside how dreadful the team will be in the upcoming season, the Giants actually got a good haul in return. To get the 1st-round pick, and then some, in this deal is pretty good:
Especially impressive when you consider how much less the Steelers received in return for Antonio Brown.

Of course, this trade is all about the Browns...it's crazy to think how they've suddenly become one of the most talented/exciting/newsworthy teams in the league. They're now "must-see TV," they'll certainly get a couple of those primetime/standalone games. Before the trade, I did not see the Browns as the AFC North favorites in 2019. But now, they definitely should be considered the favorites.

As I posted here recently, have been in the keep OBJ club. Also, stated totally understand those Giant fans who wanted him gone. Don't think this changes much about the Giants future, at least in the short term. They don't have a deep or talented roster. It's going to take more than one good draft to remedy the situation. Giants have gone 8-24 the last 2 years. The presence of OBJ has not significantly affected their won/loss total since his arrival in 2014. Against your Eagles, Giants are 1-9 since 2014. Don't think trade affects Eli Manning's future at all. They still need to find the next guy. If they don't believe in any of the QBs in this year's draft, punt until next year. You can always plug in a veteran to hold the fort for next year. The league is crawling with them. The Giants do deserve criticism for signing OBJ to the big contract before trading him. The trade now cost the team 16 mil against the cap in dead money. It shows a lack of planning on their part.
As for the Browns, good luck. Love to see them have success. They have an interesting mix of personalities. Watched them a couple times early last year. They were bad against the run. Browns will need to fix that or all the weapons on offense will be on the sidelines twiddling their thumbs.

Also breaking overnight:

How 'bout that...the Jets are on the rise while the Giants are in full rebuild. Man, I really hope Sam Darnold turns out to be great-it would just kill Giants fans and would also mean that the Patriots finally have a legit challenger in that division.

^ Bell looks dumb for sitting the year out. He didn't cash in as much as he thought. I think he was hoping for more than Todd Gurley but he basically probably got what Pittsburgh would have given him if they worked out a new deal. In the end Bell lost a guaranteed $14 million since he didn't sign the franchise tender last season and plus all the fines he had to paid. Not a good look. Idt he helps the Jets much. They still lack playmakers on the outside. As for Sam Darnold I didn't like him in college and I have stated he will not be good in the NFL. I'm sticking to that so Giants fans won't say I wish we drafted him. He is too inaccurate and throws too many picks...did it at USC. He regressed at USC in his senior season.

Golden Tate to the Giants for four years. It makes a bit of sense if Eli Manning is your quarterback because he was never all that much a deep threat and now he has the best safety valve receiver in the league to catch those short outs he likes to throw. Tate can also show some things to the young WR's the Giants must now develop.

Yeah, he'll pair nicely with Saquon to catch all of Eli's check-down passes.

NFL announced today that Kareem Hunt will be suspended for 8 games this season as punishment for that caught-on-camera confrontation with a woman.

Golden Tate and Sterling Shepherd are a pair of number two receivers. Tate has no speed and Idt teams are sacred of Shepherd beating them deep so teams can load the box. Reportedly the Giants are not interested in Dwayne Haskins. If they don't take a QB in the first round I really don't know what the hell is going on there.

Blake Bortles will reportedly visit the Rams on Monday.

As for Ryan Tannahill to the Titans I believe they did it for two reasons. One Mariota gets hurt a lot and two to push him. Mariota is not very good. I really think it will be a competition between the two in training camp for the starting job...though both QBs leave a lot to be desired.

1.Do you want Giants to draft Haskins because you think he is going to be good or bad? I saw several of Haskins' games last year & what I like best about him is his improvement as the season progressed. Remember, he is the definition of a 1 year wonder. What I don't like about him is he is quite antsy under pressure. Let's hope wherever he goes, team doesn't throw him to the wolves week 1.
2.You already predicted Giants will only win a few games next year. 2020 draft is reportedly going to have a much better crop of QBs(Herbert top of the list currently). Wouldn't that mean they would be better off waiting until next year to draft a QB?
3. At this moment, looks like there is a good chance Josh Rosen can be had from Cards for a 2nd or 3rd. One of the QB needy teams could trade for him, evaluate, and then take shot at another QB in next year's draft if need be. The risk would be minimal.
4. Every team would love to have a #1 receiver. There just not enough to go around. Shurmur operated in Minnesota with no outside speed or #1 receiver. Someone pointed out in another smartbuydisc.ru, other than Marvin Harrison(Colts), we have had a long stretch of teams winning SBs without that great outside threat.
5. Shepherd is in his walk year. Tate signing can, also, be seen as insurance in case they can't resign Shepherd. Tate's 4 year deal is in essence really a 2 year one.
6. As for the Titan QB situation, I agree Mariota is mediocre. I suppose it is better to have 2 fragile QBs than 1. There just aren't enough top flight QBs to go around & that's not going to change anytime soon.

I don't think Haskins is any good. I saw him a number of times amd he bever impressed me. I think teams will shy away from him...like the Giants. Ive heard the Giants like Kylar Murray a lot but seems like Arizona will take him number one overall. He is gonna be a boom or bust...I'm leaning towards bust. Justin Herbert is awful. I'd rather take a chance on Haskins. Herbert was supoosed to be the number one pick in this draft but he played so poorly he stayed in school. I laughed when people said he is so good. I saw him a few times very unimpressive. Most Pac 12 QBs are not good in the NFL in recent history. Carson Plamer and Aaron Rodgers are the exceptions. The jury is still out on Jared Goff. Marvin Harrison had Peyton Manning throwing him thr ball in his prime so that helps and Harrison just knew how to get open and him and Manning were always on the page. Eli is washed up and should have been gone years ago but at least he can check down to Tate 10 times a game and Barkley probably 20 times. Of the starting QBs in the league there are maybe half that are legit. You are right its not going to change at all and we have even more medicore QBs coming into the league from this upcoming draft class.

Vontize Burfict is heading to the land of misfits...very fitting if you ask me.

I also came across some putrid numbers for Eli Manning without OBJ...

What do I take from that chart? Gee, OBJ sure does miss a lot of games. OBJ will benefit from a new home & Baker Mayfield. . Giants fans will judge the trade by the quality of the players they draft & Peppers. The only people who will never move on from the trade are the OBJ fanboys. You know, those grown men who show up at a game proudly wearing their #13 jersey.

^ The biggest fan violation is still wearing someone's jersey after they get traded, cut, or leave in free agency. Once we cut DeSean Jackson back in the day his jersey went in my reject drawer. Luckliy I can wear it again. After players retire is acceptable to wear them. I still have Brain Dawkins and Brain Westbrook. I'll never wear McNabb again. When I was at the Philles game last summer there were people with Hunter Pence shirts on...their fan card should be revoked. My friend has an OBJ jersey and he said he will hang up. I told him I'd stuff in a drawer somewhere.

For me, he was the most annoying personality of all the Patriots players throughout the years, but I gotta admit he was a great fuckin' player and he certainly took a beating throughout his career (drafted in 2010).

^ I second your thoughts on Gronk. I didn't realize he is only 29 cuz the beating he took he is like 37 in football years. It would not shock me if he comes back. Idt he is the best TE ever like I've seen on social media. Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates have better numbers...they are just missing the rings. I don't even think he is a Hall of Fame player. Maybe eventually but not first ballot.

Gronkowski craves attention. If he can get it elsewhere, he'll be fine. That said, I wouldn't rule out a late season comeback either. Philly26, I've come to believe your standards for the HOF are far higher than what actual exist. 5+ players get in every year. The standard for the all HOFs is the worst player that is in there, not the best.

^ Only two players ever (Jim Brown and Gale Sayers) were first ballot HOFs without playing a game in their 30s. Gronk should not be in the same classas those two iconic players. He is not a first ballot guy but will probably get in cuz they put everyone in these days. But only nine seasons cut short by injury, numbers not close to Gonzalez and Gates he is not a HOFer in my book. Hell Eli Manning will get in the HOF for the two Super Bowls and be is no way a HOFer. A ton of INTs and barely over .500 in his career.

A HOFer is someone who gets voted into the place. You are entitled to any standards you like, but the actual voters decide. In the past few weeks here, you have raised questions about Antonio Brown, Eli Manning, & Gronk. I'd wager serious money they eventually will all be voted into the place. It may take a few years, but it will happen. Hell, Joe Namath is in the HOF. It's simply doesn't have an exclusivity consistent with your viewpoint. Next year, they will put another half dozen players in there. They don't all have to be Lawrence Taylor/Jerry Rice great.

^ No shit I know they vote and I am entitled to my own damn opinion. Eli hasn't made the post season six out of the last seven years but he will get in cuz of the two damn Super Bowls. Antonio Brown still has more work to do to get in. That's the problem everyone crowns these guys. Hell let's put Nick Foles in the HOF...he has a SB. Its like they hand it out like candy. If you wanna mention Gronk in the same breatb as Jim Brown well be my guest cuz I sure as hell won't. Joe Namath has a SB...boom HOF. HOF should not be given out like candy on Easter bit that's the way it is now. I would put Gronk in the HOF way before Eli. But I shouldn't complain about him cuz he is 1-9 against the Eagles since 2014. HOF players should be near greatness of the likes of Rice, Taylor, Sanders, Jim Brown, etc. People even said about Juilen Edelman being a HOFer after the SB...that is laughable. Brady, Brees, are clear cut first ballot.

The league announced today the 100th NFL season will kick off September 5 with the Packers visiting the Bears. Perfect choice considering they are the league's oldest rivals. New England will have the SNF game in Week 1 at home.

If Jeff Hostetler gets in, it will open the door for Foles. They'll be in the relief pitcher wing currently under construction.

After all the crying by the Saints for months the NFL will now allow certain penalties to be challenged. It's still two coaches challenges per game and I absolutely hate this. Okay the Saints got shafted, every team does, they just happened to in the NFC Title Game. This will make games longer and some team will get screwed by this. I would love if the Saints do. Someone will challenge a pass interference on a hail mary and someone will lose because of it. The league even said PI sbould have been called on NE in the SB if that play was able to be challenged. It looked more like Cooks dropped the ball not PI. Thank you Saints for crying especially Sean Peyton...already calling NO to be 7-9 in 2019...they will not recover from last season.

Earlier tonight the Eagles acquired RB Jordan Howard from the Bears for a 6th round pick (could become a 5th). What a great move by Howie Roseman. Finally a legit back that can also catch the ball out of the backfield. This will help Wentz and the entire offense. Can line him up outside in the slot check it down screens. The Eagles have had the best off season thus far in the NFC East.

Howard's a good back who lacks speed. Wasn't often targeted in Bears passing game, but they have Cohen. Like Josh Adams, had injury issues in college. You can never have too many good running backs.

^ I agree, especially how often they get hurt cuz of the beating they take. After Josh Adams fumbled in the Houston game Idt Doug trusted him and he disappeared. He is not a bell cow but might make the roster as a 3rd back unless they draft someone. Corey Clement would be a nice lairing with Howard but they don't use Clement much or play to his strengths. He is a miss match on a LB but they too often have him run between the tackles. I think he is more suited in the passing game. Idk if Sproles will retire or not. He was still productive last season but the injury factor is there still cuz he is a much older player now.

I gotta admit I didn't know much about this Jordan Howard, but by the sounds of it, the Eagles will continue to be "running back by committee." That's what I heard Brian Westbrook say on Mike Missanelli's show yesterday; to expect a great deal out of this guy, when all the Eagles gave up was a 6th-round pick, is foolish. Running back and cornerback are the two (key) positions where the Eagles have essentially been "winging it" for years now; it's been years since they've had stability at either one.

As for the rule change you were talking about, I don't like it, either. I don't like the coaches being able to challenge, it should be up to off-the-field officials to determine if the on-field officials missed a call.

^ Just cuz he cost a 6th round pick doesn't mean he is a typical plug in back like we're had. Howie is a wizard and the Bears are dumb for not wanting more. Howard is 3rd in the league in rushing since 2016. I think he should get a bulk of the carries. I'm sick of the RB by committee crap. Westbrook seemed to be one of the only ones who was not a fan of the move. Most things I read people raved about the move. I can't stand Missenilli btw lol They gotta take him of of TV and get another sports talk show on in the evening.

Hey, I couldn't agree more. I don't care for sports talk radio, period. However, NBCSP just ended that Philly Sports Talk show (which I actually liked) last month, so lately I've been occassionally tuning into Mike's show to get my dose of Philly sports talk. The network, NBCSP, should be so much better than it actually is; except for the games themselves and the Postgame Live shows, there's really nothing worth watching on it. Comcast/NBC continue to cut costs for the network. The thing I've always hated most about the channel is that Eagles Postgame Live does not have video highlights; that show would be so much better if they were able to show highlights of the game.

By the way, this happened today:

^ Yeah I miss Philly Sports Talk, I watched it as far back of Daily News Live. Once Amy Fadool and Marc Farzetta toook over I knew the show would not last. They should have had Fadool just host, I hate Farzetta. He just tries to joke about everything. Michael Barkcan is hardly on anymore and they have gotten rid of so many people. I am hoping maybe by fall they will have a show in the 5pm slot. Maybe something Eagles related. The network is so corporate now and like you said besides the games and PGL there is nothing to watch. I too check in on Missenilli for some Philly sports news to get my fix. I agree Idk why they don't show highlights. I like everyone on PGL except Barret Brooks. He can go. He annoys me.

As for the AAF I knew the league would fold. Its funny cuz they didn't even make it through the season...the XFL did. It was awful football. I watched a quarter here and there and it was trash. Tom Douden loses $70 million and asking the NFLPA for help was a joke. All these people were raving about the league on Facebook (they can't be real football fans if they think its better than the NFL) and I always talked shit on the league and trolled people. I'm glad its gone. Bill Polian looks dumb in this too. A HOF GM and his league folds after 8 weeks. The ticket sales and merchandise did not sell and it was set to fail from the start. The XFL might as well fold now cuz if they think it will work they are kidding themselves.

The failures of the AAF, XFL and Arena Football League just prove that Americans don't so much love football as it is that we simply love the NFL and Division I college football. Not to mention that my generation - and younger - of football fans have grown accustomed to football essentially being an August-to-February thing. As I mentioned in this thread before, as much as I love the NFL and like D-I college football, I'm not starving for football February through July.

It is surprising that this AAF thing has already collapsed, considering that it actually had the support of the NFL and a major network (CBS).

There are other Arena leagues one of which the IFL has been around for ten years now. I think the arena lasts cuz its more of a local event for places that don't have a pro team (Bismark, Iowa, Sioux Falls to name a few) and they don't ask the NFL for help. I am fine with no football from February to August. It makes you appreciate it more when the season starts.

CBS only showed one game and weren't going to show one until the championship game which is now canceled of course. Many people don't have NFL Network. I feel like they were making up things as they went and when you sell Starter jerseys for 100 bucks that are ugly you aren't gonna make a profit. The league nearly folded after two weeks before Tom Douden invested $250 million which he lost 70 of.

The 2019 NFL schedule will be unveiled tomorrow at 8pm ET on NFL Network.

Russell Wilson's self imposed deadline for a new deal worked out for him. Seattle didn't have to give him a new deal yet but they caved in to the tune of 4 years $140 million...a record $35 million per season and $65 million guaranteed. Now the market continues to rise and if the Eagles extend Carson Wentz its gonna cost more now. Dak Prescott and Jared Goff will cash in as well. It will be interesting to see which QB of those three cashes in the most.

Friends -

Anxious to see how the Eagles' 2019 schedule lays out so I can get a head start on my trips. This year all five of the Eagles non-division road games are at stadiums that I've never been to for a game. So I'm pretty enthused about that. Gonna try for two trips from here in San Diego. My priorities are Minnesota and Miami for the Vikings and Dolphins games. We'll see how the dates and the potential weather effect the planning. Yeah, I KNOW that we play the Packers AT Green Bay this season. I got Cheesehead buddies that are already all over me about not wanting to go to Green Bay for some holy Lambeau pilgrimage. But I don't care about "Lambeau lore" and "Title Town" and any of that other Packers invented football stuff. Hell, I'd go to Buffalo for the game against the Bills where I can freeload off of all my relatives in Buffalo and Niagara Falls, before I'd go to Lambeau just to say I'd been there and worshiped the ground that Lombardi trod.

^ I am very interested as well to see how the schedule shakes out. What the road games will look like and how many in a row will we have on the road/at home plus how many prime time games. Hopefully the bye week will be later in the season. I would imagine the home game against New England will be a prime time game. Dallas whether its home or away is usually a prime time game.

Btw BSD I saw a while ago on Facebook that it was rumored the Eagles' trip to Minnesota will be Thanksgiving night so we shall see tomorrow if that is the case.

Idk what the Eagles did to piss the NFL off but the schedule is brutal. The only team to play three in a row on the road plus four out of five on the road is the toughest stretch of the season. Three straight home games plus a late season bye is good but again the schedule makers did us no favors...Seattle comes to the Linc off a bye and so does New England. The schedule gets better towards the end of the season but if the Eagles don't survive the early part of the schedule the season will be over. I see 3-4 through the first 7. 10-6 and even 11-5 is doable but that won't be good enough for a first round bye. I thought the Eagles could make another Super Bowl run this season...but it will be tough with this schedule to be a top 2 seed.

Here is my way too early win/loss Eagles predictions...

Week 1 vs. Washington Redskins W
Week 2 at Atlanta Falcons L
Week 3 Detroit Lions W
Week 4 at Green Bay Packers L
Week 5 vs. New York Jets W
Week 6 at Minnesota Vikings L
Week 7 at Dallas Cowboys L
Week 8 at Buffalo Bills W
Week 9 vs. Chicago Bears W
Week 10 -- BYE
Week 11 vs. New England Patriots W
Week 12 vs. Seattle Seahawks L
Week 13 at Miami Dolphins W
Week 14 vs. New York Giants W
Week 15 at Washington Redskins W
Week 16 vs. Dallas Cowboys W
Week 17 at New York Giants W (11-5)

You heard it here first predictions: Saints start the season 0-3 (first three games vs Hou, , Sea; will miss playoffs at 7-9

On the flip side Browns start 3-0 (first three games vs Ten, , vs LAR win AFC North at 11-5

Dallas' schedule is cake. They have Buffalo on Thanksgiving. Give me a break. New England only travels west of the Mississippi once, a trip to Houston. Pretty easy schedule besides a trip to Baltimore and Philly.

Thoughts on that blessed event Schedule Day
1. The schedules always leak out early in the day making the night shows rather pointless. I went online about 1:00 pm & the Giants schedule was out.
2. Predicting wins/losses is harmless fun(see above), but they shouldn't waste time doing it on tv shows. We have no idea what teams are going to be decimated by injuries 7 months from now. Few would have predicted Giants would beat the Bears last year, but fill-in QB Chase Daniel almost single-handedly gave the game to NY. Next week, we will see the tv show experts rate every team's draft 10 minutes after it ended. That is even more foolish.
3. If a team is good, the schedule never looks that tough. If the team is bad, man, it looks brutal.
4. Each year a Boston radio show has 2 imaginary Pats fans go through the schedule game by game. It's hilarious.
5. The lousier your team is, the more 1:00 o'clock games they'll have. Fans that actually go to the games much prefer the 1 o'clock ones. I'm at 99% watch on tv guy, so I don't care. Was at a Giants game once where they announced a future game was being flexed to Sunday night & you could hear a groan echo thru the stadium.
6. Feel for the teams that have to go to London each year for a game.
7. Draft is a week from today. Mel Kiper is nearing 60 and his hair still looks good.
