Dick's Sporting Goods reviewed their records and found that they had sold a gun to the MSD school shooter -- not one that was used in the shooting, but it was a factor in their decision.
I am impressed by this one, because the decision seems to be made on ethical grounds. Other sporting goods stores and gun shops will be asked what choice they will be making, and they are in a position where their answer will lose them buyers on the left, or buyers on the right. A pure business decision would not look the same as an ethical decision.

And I think at some point, that might move companies to pressure Congress to pass reasonable, common sense gun regulations. If Congress had done that, companies would not be in this position where they must choose (and make a public choice), and lose either the left or the right.

We are so divided, and this is dividing people further, which people who use this as a wedge issue have loved. And Putin loves it. But we are so divided, that people are going to invest along ideological lines and shop along ideological lines, and it's now hurting Big Business.

Companies don't like having to weave and bob, and shuck and jive trying to avoid these land mines. They have been put in a tough position by the refusal of Congress to effectively address issues that it is actually their job to handle.

^^ ... I fail to see how the public interest is served by some Georgians being given favored treatment over other Georgians by Delta. On the other hand, I can see how the NRA and other rich donors want value for their money. So, thank you, Georgian lawmakers, for making plain to us all the extent to which you've been corrupted by those campaign contributions.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this:
Why is it a good idea to have a teacher go into combat against a guy with an assault weapon?
Anyhoo. From the article referenced at the end of the previous page of this thread:

Low quality gun and smaller magazine rounds saved lives.
Translation: With a better gun and bigger magazine clips, more people would have been murdered.

OMG. Watching this was like watching Topsy Turvy World.
Of course, Trump's a giant flip flopper who embraces all sides of everything and lies as easily as he breathes. And this looks suspiciously like the earlier Chuck and Nancy thing, and the thing where Congress was supposed to bring him something, anything on DACA, and he'd sign it no matter what. But it was surreal hearing him saying reasonable things. For a minute, you think maybe we tore a hole in the dimensional fabric that slipped us into an alternate universe in November of 2016.
Good entertainment. Sort of. So bizarre seeing the Prez saying a reasonable thing, even though it's completely contradictory to what he has already said (and signed).

Walmart is raising their minimum age for gun sales to 21.
I totally saw some other comments by Trump at that gun conference today that didn't make it into the article that were real eyebrow raisers, but I don't have actual quotes at hand, so if you get a chance to see it -- see it.

I really, really fail to see how discontinuing a discount on flights to an annual event constitutes an attack.
I also really, really fail to see it as any part of a legislatures reponsibility to oversee and respond to corporate discount programs.
And I don't see how the Georgia legislature can claim to be doing so in order to represent the citizens of Georgia.

Kroger and L.L. Bean are also raising the gun purchase age.
REI doesn't sell guns, but they sell brands of goods (Bell Helmets, Bushnell binoculars, etc.) owned by Vista Outdoor, which makes guns. REI has put a hold on future orders until the company "outlines a clear plan of action" on the weapons it manufactures.

I can't believe how stupid Georgia is being.
Taunting a big employer in their state.
Over a discount that has only EVER been used 13 times.
I was already nonplussed. Discounts like this are usually sort of worthless -- a minimal percentage discount from full fare, which can easily be beat by buying on a Tuesday and staying over a Saturday, or whatever. Anybody eligible for the discount can usually use some other discount instead -- AARP or their credit union or something.
Equating the dropping of a pathetic discount to an attack on conservatism is so way-over-the-top it can only originate from a boot-licking lackey of the NRA.

Cagle has a right to free speech -- but not the right to use government power to limit or punish the free speech of others. It's not about Cagle's right to free speech.
I think that taking millions of dollars in tax breaks away over a political expression is punishing free speech.
By the way, the political statement that Delta was making was that they wanted to remain neutral in political matters. That's what they are being punished for. They didn't want to be in the middle of a shitstorm.

So, to be clear -- Delta is ending a discount for NRA members for flights to an annual event. The discount has only ever been used 13 times.
What Delta was really responding to was people complaining about the NRA log on a Delta webpage.
In other words, plain as day -- Put that NRA logo back on your webpage, or we will take away millions of dollars.
Amazon should strike Atlanta off the list of potential sites for a second headquarter. Who wants to do business in a state that tells you they will punish you unless you display an NRA logo?

That's because you think a gun is just a tool, whereas the gun nuts have invested all manner of political, religious and personal ideologies into their gun ownership. To them, it isn't a tool, it is a totem.

Is anyone even talking about putting a "sin tax" on ammunition? With tobacco the money was used to educate people on the dangers of smoking. It was very effective in limiting teen smoking in states that used the money for such. The ammunition tax could be used for mental health services, or school security. Ammunition should be expensive, because it's costing us a fortune as a society.

Better yet those taxes should fund medical bills for those accidentally hit by gunshots and for any bill related to gunshot for any kid hit , it should also be variable depending on the number of those wounded on yearly basis , with adjustmenta midyear if necessary.
I'm willing to bet such ever rising amount would draw some attention on everybody

Actually ideas like that have been floated around for years. In 1993 the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, basically said gun control was pointless, because at the time there were enough guns in private hands to last the country 200 years, but pointed out that at the time there was only enough ammo to last the country 3 years. So he proposed an increase on ammo not all but he excluded hunting and target shooting ammo he specifically wanted an increase on ammo like hollow tips and those that were designed to cause a lot of damage. When asked how much he said raise it 10000% so that the tax on a box of 20 alone would be $1,500. Chris Rock famously joked about how we don't need gun control we need bullet control and how all bullets should be priced at $5,000. California just had a new laws take affect in January that have taken aim at ammo control and more to be enacted next year as well/
There was also a court case dc vs heller that stated that ammunition is a critical component of a firearm.
Those that are very pro gun argue that such a tax actually hurts more than it would help. There argument is simply more training and more practice means more safety for the user and for everyone around. And that takes more ammunition. They argue that criminals are not likely buying their weapons legally anyway and use little ammo so the scales would be tilted in their favor. Another argument made against it is that by imposing fees on ammunition purchases, the restrictions will price out the people of less fortunate means, from any ability to train and practice. These are the people who live paycheck to paycheck. Any marginal cost increase forces them to make hard choices in which daily necessities to purchase, increasing the cost of ammunition, they'll be forced to choose between feeding, defending, or housing their children.

District Of Columbia Vs Heller, SCOTUS: Washington D.C. Vs Heller Response section 2 - June 26, 2006:
Further more the constitution does not say free bullets. You don't make enough for both food and ammunition? Tough shit. That's what the right always says to the elderly and poor when it comes to medication or food.

Oh I agree the food, ammo, or shelter argument is totally laughable. A own several airsoft rifles and if the price of the ammo for those raised to the point where it came to be very expensive and to continue I would have to give something up the mortgage and groceries are not on the list of things that would be sacrificed. Or I would go find a cheaper hobby. Never heard of a person dying because they could not go to the target range on the weekend.

The Moynihan thing evidently proposed to exempt ammo for hunting. I think that's sufficient to allow the impoverished to have some ammo. A lot of impoverished people are, like, college students who don't really need a lot of self-defense ammo. Or old people living on a fixed income. If they 'need' ammo, hunting ammo will do. They don't need to gear up with those chest-belt things of ammo. What are those things called?
