Simon, I think it might be best to post this topic in the polls section so you can have more participation.

^ Thanks, but I don't think a quiz really belongs in 'Polls'; and is it's only music questions should probably be here rather than WN&N. (Much like most 80s90s musicians who continue releasing new songs and albums, it looks it's just going to die a death.)

Yourself or Someone Like You.

Great album and I saw them in concert in 2002 during their peak. They were great live.

^ Tragic Kingdom. (I've actually never heard that album.)

When that song came out, i saw Cindy Lauper had a new album on the charts. When I saw 'Don't Speak' on a video show, the singer looked like Cindy Lauper, so I just assumed it was her new song. Later I kept hearing 'No Doubt' and was all confused.

^^^ Correct. Yes it is a great album. (Though the self declared music experts looked down on them.) There's actually a concert video from that first album.

I'm a Matchbox Twenty fan, but I'd never seen them live. Now I hadn't paid any attention to Rob Thomas's solo albums. A few years ago Rob Thomas was touring his second solo album. Now as I'd never seen MB20 live I figured I'd go just because he'll be sure to play some MB20.

Question: Guess how many MB20 songs he played?

Correct, I did enjoy this album a lot when I was younger but not much anymore. After this album Gwen Stefini did a solo thing and the band sold out.

I absolutely hate this band lol Hold My Hand was one but I don't know the other two. I would have to Google it, I've heard them cuz they played the crap out of all of their songs.

^^ Once he went solo I didn't pay attention to him anymore. Mad Season was a good album and thrw follow up to that wasn't bad then I lost interest in them once Linkin Park came out.

I'm guessing he played none! I mean you think he would have played 3AM!

^^^ No please tell me Torn is NOT a cover! Say is ain't so!

And wow yeah $140 for Rob Thomas is nuts! I paid way less for Matchbox 20. The last concert I saw was Lights and I think the tickets were $25. They charge a crazy amount for more popular artists.

^ Sorry; it is so. (Famous songs that were actually covers)

$140 just to hear a few MB2O songs, as I'd never seen them live, and he plays none. Grrrrrr.

Normally in his solo shows he does play 3AM, and maybe Unwell, but he had some special guests at this show. (See question below.)

Funnilly, look what I found tucked away in an album I bought the next day.20190330_214715.jpg

^^ Wow that is crazy! I never knew it was a cover! Its one of my all time fave songs. I looked up last night and social media was ablaze when it was announced the song was a cover. I save my old concert tickets too. Its funny cuz lately I haven't even gotten an actual ticket (like the one you have above) I print it out from the site. How times have changed.

^ Are you saying you posted 'Torn' was a cover, and SM went crazy? Wow!

I actually knew the singer as an actress years before that song.

Speaking of that Rob Thomas concert, towards the end a group was chanting "3AM. 3AM" and he said why he wouldn't be playing MB20

No I didn't post it, I Googled it and there were articles saying how Twitter went nuts and people were shocked. Yeah Natalie Imburglia started as an actress on an Australian soap opera.

^^^^ Oh, I thought you started a social media storm, announcing that Torn was a cover. But I'm amazed that you knew Natalie Imbruglia was in an Australian soap for years.

("Hit for: Natalie Imbruglia
Originally by: Ednaswap, Lis Sorensen and Trine Rein

SOMETIMES a good song needs a few attempts to make it. US band Ednaswap wrote Torn in 1993. Danish singer Lis Sorensen recorded it as Braendt, which translates as Burnt. Then Ednaswap recorded their own version in 1995, which also burnt. Not in a good way. A year later Norwegian singer Trine Rein recorded Torn, in English, scoring a Top 10 in her homeland. A year later producer Phil Thornalley (who co-wrote Torn) was working on Natalie Imbruglia's post-Neighbours debut album. He handed her Torn, her version being very similar to Rein's. And suddenly Torn was finally a global hit, fourth time lucky. ())

Thanks for the info about Torn. Natalie Imburglia is one of my all time fave female artists so I know a decent amonut about her. Smoke is my fave song besides Torn from her debut album. I have all of her CDs but one. She hasn't had one in years. I think her most recent was from 2013, I would have to look at the CD to know for sure. She had a cover album (ironically) a few years ago called Male in which she covered male artists songs. This is the only album I dont have from her cuz it not an original album of her songs. I follow her on Facebook and she does a lot of charity work now. She doesn't seem to be doing music any more.

^^^ I stand corrected.

""Someday We'll Know" became a top 40 hit in only [Brazil and NZ] ... and failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100" ()

I didn't really follow the charts, but at the time I was listening to a radio show that played it all the time; so I assumed it was a hit.

I didn't even know New Radicals did this song. I just listened to it on YouTube and I don't like it. I just like You Get What You Give. There are a good amount of songs from particular artists/bands where I only like one song by them.

Someone I know is always telling me 'Mad Season' is one of their all time favourite albums. I tell him I didn't like and haven't heard it in years, but he's always asking me if I've played it.

Following this comment I dug it out and played it on the weekend. And... it is brilliant. It's a different sound to
their first and third album, but it sounded great. I've always loved the song Mad Season, but Rest Stop is a masterpiece.

Question: What was the first single from Matchbox Twenty's second album 'Mad Season'?

^ Bent was the first single of Mad Season.

I really like the album. I agree Rest Stop is incredible. I also love Last Beautiful Girl and You Won't Be Mine. I love the piano in that song and how he builds it up and plays out the song with the piano. I gotta look up the track list to see what other songs stick out for me.

If You're Gone is also a good song but besides the ones I mentioned I don't remember the other songs. I haven't listened to that album in years aside from the songs I mentioned cuz I did include them on one of my Spotify playlists.

Their debut album was titled Middle of Nowhere.

I find it strange that this is the one you remember. I thought it was the other two that were played everywhere (and one of them anywhere and everywhere) and this was the more obscure one.
