Right-wing talk show host Jesse Lee Peterson reacted to the news that a lesbian had been elected as mayor of Chicago by blaming what he views as an unfortunate outcome on the fact that women are being allowed to vote without men instructing them how to do so properly.

Peterson, who has long insisted that “one of the greatest mistakes that America made was to allow women the opportunity to vote,” complained on his radio program yesterday that elected offices are being filled with gays and Muslims “because of the women’s vote.”

“I am blown away how there are people in our country who have no shame about being wrong now and that wrong is being accepted as right,” Peterson griped. “You have mayors [who are] lesbians—I think we got more than one in the country—and we have homosexuals, and men and women who are living together without being married, and Muslims and all the wrong kinds of people running our country. It’s like they’re becoming first class citizens while Christians, the men and women of God, are becoming second class citizens.”

“The reason all of this is happening,” he added, “is become of the women’s vote. There are more women voting … and they are voting for the wrong things, folks, the wrong people, the wrong emotional reasons. And the reason they’re doing it is because they don’t have men to say, ‘No, don’t vote for that person, that’s wrong, and here’s why it’s wrong.’ They don’t have men leading the way and then women have convinced the men to vote for the homosexuals and other people.”

1) Being a lesbian is a biological/psychological trait. In that regard, it is neither a choice, nor a moral failing. You can claim that acting on that trait is wrong, but only by invoking religion. Last I checked, freedom of religion was a basic right under the Constitution of the United States of America. Freedom of religion is meaningless without freedom from the likes of you, Mr. Peterson, dictating how I should live my life in order to satisfy your religious beliefs. So, on behalf of all the people you are attempting to besmirch, sod off.

2) There are millions of Muslims around the world, and they all pray to the same god Christians do. No doubt some of them misapply the tenets of their religion to satisfy their own prejudices, but since you are doing the exact same thing you really have no cause for complaint.

3) As for men and women living together without getting married, can you say "Adam and Eve"? Marriage may say something about you social status, but it really proves absolutely nothing about your character, Mr. Peterson. Furthermore, I would much rather see bad marriages end than have people put up false fronts to satisfy little tyrants like you.

^^ Since when did "Patriotism" become part of the political compass? Can one not have socialist views and be patriotic at the same time?

Oy vey! smh.

Miriam-Webster defines "socialism" as:

socialism noun
so·cial·ism | \ ˈsō-shə-ˌli-zəm
Definition of socialism

1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods

2a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property

b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state

3 : a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

You would think, by the above definition, that a socialist would be more patriotic than a liberal or a conservative.

Considering he could only muster 12% of the vote in 2018 and didn't take a single county or city in our state, I don't think anyone really cares one way or another what Mr. Jackson says.

Well, if a kleptocracy is rule by kleptocrats (thieves)...

And a plutocracy is rule by plutocrats (people whose power derives from there wealth)...

Then one would assume that in saying homocracy he meant to say rule by homosexuals.

So would we want to trade our kleptocracy/plutocracy/theocracy/autocracy/etc. for a homocracy? Seems like a step up, to me. Shrug.

But there is already an actual definition of homocracy, listed as a proposed new word by Collins Dictionary -- "the system in which everyone in a house has right to choose the head." Well, that sounds pretty good.

The Latin/Greek roots for the prefixes: 'hetero-' means mixed, different, unlike. 'Homo-' means same, alike. Hence we get words like 'heterogenous' and 'homogenized' as well as 'heterosexual' and 'homosexual.'

So in the above definition, homocracy would be a system where everyone's vote has the same weight as every other vote.

The Urban Dictionary's take on homocracy is:

This also sounds like a system where everyone's vote has the same weight as every other vote.

^in keeping with that topic:

The exercise of political power by legislative majorities of white, male elected officials in ways that disproportionately exclude or harm women and people of color is such a familiar part of the American political landscape that it sometimes goes under-remarked.

That was not the case last week after 25 white Republican men in Alabama voted for a near-total abortion ban in the state, an act that focused the national attention and sparked fears of a broader assault on women’s rights.

But the furor around Alabama’s move was exceptional. Elsewhere white, male legislative majorities have enacted controversial policies without drawing such a spotlight, by stopping minimum wage increases, voting down paid sick leave, blocking bans on fracking, defeating gun safety measures, purging voter rolls, upholding discriminatory criminal justice measures and barring free choice in marriage.

Neither race nor gender nor any other demographic distinction is purely predictive of political outlook, and each of the causes listed above has had champions and opponents of all kinds.
But as when 11 white men on the Senate judiciary committee last year had to recruit a female lawyer to question Dr Christine Blasey Ford about her sexual assault claims against judge Brett Kavanaugh, the Alabama abortion ban has prompted new questions about why America’s elected officials don’t look more like America. It is also reinvigorating the debate about what that discrepancy is costing the country.

“It’s pretty clear that what’s happening in Alabama is not a reflection of what most people in Alabama want,” said Caroline Fredrickson, president of the American Constitution Society and former director of the ACLU’s Washington legislative office. “And so the ultimate question is: How is it happening that the state legislature is passing bills that the people don’t support?

*****

The white male grip on political power in the United States is strong. Seven out of 10 US senators are white men, a group that makes up only about 30% of the US population. White men hold 65% of elected seats nationally, according to the Reflective Democracy Campaign. About half of all federal judges (but more than 70% of Donald Trump nominees) are white men.

Legislators do not feel beholden to 'the people'. Rather, they feel beholden to the people and organizations that give them large campaign contributions, contributions that all too often ends up in the candidate's pocket. Granted, pocketing campaign contributions is illegal, but as the FEC doesn't bother to enforce the law, it appears to be a fairly common practice.

So, yes, the short answer is, "Graft and corruption."

He was banned from Twitter after posting a photo of Prince Harry a the photoshopped photo of Harry’s fiancé, biracial actress Meghan Markle, as the Cheddar Man — the dark-skinned man believed to be the first modern Briton — with the caption, “Honey, does this tie make my face look pale?”

Nehlen published a list of critics of his campaign, including their phone numbers and email addresses, and claimed that most of the people who criticized his campaign were Jewish.

He started an “it’s okay to be white” campaign on social media and has regularly defended white supremacist messaging.

He said, “Islam is the only major religion that encourages lying,” adding that America should have a “discussion” about having “Muslims in the country” at all.

“In 2012, a Republican politician from Pennsylvania sold voter ID laws with the promise that they would deliver the state to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. In 2016, North Carolina Republicans admitted in court documents that they eliminated Sunday voting because it was mostly used in “disproportionately black” counties.”

“[Thomas} Hofeller, who The New York Timesdubbed the “Michelangelo of gerrymandering” for his work drawing congressional districts to maximise Republican wins, wrote a study in 2015 showing that the best way to tilt the scales toward the party was to add a citizenship question, which would lead to a massive undercount of Hispanic voters. Hofeller later shared this information with the Trump transition team.”

From the comments
KJ Barossa
It has been apparent for some time the USA stretches the term of being a "Democratic Republic" past the true meaning of those words. Gerrymandering in each state - both Republican and Democrat parties is rampant, both are guilty of this as the electoral boundaries are set state by state by whichever party is holds power within that state. This article shows a further departure from the principals of a democratic nation which they profess.

studio 5, the stars
I do not understand the article. Is it saying non citizens should have to right to vote in the US?

Saiyuki-> studio 5, the stars
LOL what nonsense. It is saying that Latino households where they may be a non-documented person but the rest of the household are US Citizens, are unlikely to fill in the Census at all, the Republicans know this and are counting on this. Then the voting districts will be deliberately manipulated to disenfranchise these citiuzens. You also knew this, and are feigning ignorance.

Al Kidder-> studio 5, the stars
No. It says that putting a question about citizenship on the census results in some non citizens failing to return the census form. That in turn leads to an underestimation of the population in areas where non citizens live. Since non citizens often live alongside their naturalised or America born kin and may be on the naturalisation path themselves, the undercount leads to electorates having more voters than in less immigrant dominated areas.

ITpedant-> studio 5, the stars
No, it's saying that they will tilt the flow of federal funds into predominately white areas by reducing the (perceived) head count in predominately non-white areas. This way the white people will have access to more federal funds, and the black people will suffer.
It's about securing the white vote, as the Republicans think that "whites vote for us, blacks vote Democrat" (except that turns out to be incorrect).
It is also morally bankrupt and if it's not illegal it should be.

Right-wing militia groups across the Pacific Northwest are mobilizing to prevent Oregon state police from arresting Republican state senators who went into hiding on Thursday in order to prevent climate change legislation from passing.

One of the lawmakers on the lam, Republican Brian Boquist (R), warned that he would resort to violence rather than return to the state, implying in a local television interview that he would attack law enforcement officers sent to retrieve him.

“Send bachelors and come heavily armed,” Boquist said. “I’m not going to be a political prisoner in the state of Oregon. It’s just that simple.”
