If it was another woman that would be one thing, the fact that it's his daughter and he actually looks at her hips 1st?

Excerpts from the article:

Two men have been arrested after a Pakistani woman took to social media alleging her husband beat her, stripped her and shaved her head after she refused to dance for him and his friends.

In the video posted March 26 and translated by various media outlets, Asma Aziz said her husband "took my clothes off in front of his employees. The employees held me as he shaved my hair off and burned it. My clothes were bloody. I was bound by a pipe and hung from the fan. He threatened to hang me naked."

Aziz, who lives in Lahore, speaks into the camera with bruises and cuts evident on her face and her head shaven. She says she was tortured two days earlier and appealed for public help. She says that her husband frequently hit her and that she regularly danced for her husband and his friends but this time she refused.

smh.

Follow-up story:

Excerpts from the article:

An ethics committee has recommended a three-month, unpaid suspension for a New Jersey judge who told a woman she could “close your legs” to prevent a sexual assault.

The committee released its recommendation to the state Supreme Court Wednesday in the case of Superior Court Judge John Russo, who sits on the bench in Ocean County in southern New Jersey. He has been on administrative leave since 2017.

The woman appeared before Russo in 2016 seeking a restraining order against a man she said sexually assaulted her. According to a transcript of the exchange, when the woman described her encounter with the man, Russo asked her, “Do you know how to stop somebody from having intercourse with you?”

When the woman answered affirmatively and said one method would be to run away, Russo continued, “Close your legs? Call the police? Did you do any of those things?”

I'm not sure how this idiot became a judge but the sentence should be more severe. Teach him and other shitheads like him that saying nonsense like that will never be tolerated.

Excerpts from the article:

A settlement has been reached in a defamation case against Bill Cosby -- but representatives for the comedian say he didn't cut the deal.

Court documents filed by attorneys for the seven women involved in the case -- originally filed in 2014 -- say the plaintiffs have reached a settlement and are requesting that the judge dismiss the case.

But Cosby's press representative Andrew Wyatt said that insurance company AIG reached the settlement without Cosby's knowledge or consent.

I physically recoiled several times watching that. To me the worst part is the girl having her hair tampered with/face caressed/ear stroked by lips and breath. But to be honest, all of them had me pushing my shoulders back, moving my head, flinching and cringing, it made me want to push everything away from me.

Cringe, cringe.

It's an old-style (I hope) thing that's a sort of attitude of ownership. Kids do not like it when mom spits on a kleenex and wipes something off their faces.

Most of these things are not sexual harassment, at least not apparently so. It's creepy, and people have whiffles of resentment when someone touches them unexpectedly. Personal space!

And adults do the same thing sort of invasive to boys that they do to girls. They ruffle the kids' hair without permission. When I was a kid, kooky people who have no idea how to relate to a kid (which is fine, but best not even make a lame attempt) seemed to ALWAYS do that thing where they reach over and skim my nose, and then hold out their fist with the thumb poking out between two fingers and say, "I got your nose!" I didn't feel harassed exactly, just a wee bit invaded.

nose.jpg

Evidently people still do this.

They also always seemed to ask where I got my freckles -- way to put me on the spot for a reply! Then they ran out of things to say.

Remember George W. Bush's unexpected massage of Angela Merkel's shoulders? Cringe. She looked like she was ready to spit.

merkel.jpg

No no no no no.

Basically, it's people missing social cues.

Oh, yeah, it's an attitude of entitlement.

"I don't have to ask your permission to touch -- I own you, or I outrank you, or you're a kid; your opinion isn't sought."

That's why Biden's brush-off joke isn't funny. His offenses weren't sexual harassment, but the social obliviousness is high, and he's done it repeatedly. It may be that he's following the Golden Rule and doing unto others what he would like. But as someone pointed out, it's better to do unto others what they would actually like. For that, you have to seek and notice social cues.

Talk to someone long enough to gauge how relaxed they are, take into account whether they seem to want contact. Two consenting parties. Not doing so is dehumanizing of the other person. If in doubt -- well, why is it even important to you that you need to court someone for a hug? Skip it. A warm smile is enough.

By the way, Biden's joke that he "had permission to hug Lonny" implies that it's less creepy to go around asking people if it's okay to hug them. That might not be any less creepy. Even when it's Aunt Liz, it can be creepy for people to put you on the spot, coercing you for a hug.

All the same, I don't think Biden's clueless gaffes belong on the sexual harassment thread.

^^ The Fig Sign.

In Indonesia, it is known as a gesture symbol for sexual intercourse. Where the thumb represent the male genitalia, the middle and index finger act as the female genitalia, this is to replicate the penetration of the male genitalia into the female genitalia.

This hand gesture is still popular up until today specially among men.

In other words, it means f**k you! or f**k off!

It was implied when stating why a man was fired from working at a childcare centre

"emailed 35 of the centre's parents saying he was fired because of "disciplinary reasons" "

"also rang a parent whose child attended ... Childcare and said [he] “couldn’t be trusted fully,” "

"“The plaintiff’s character was seriously impugned … his reputation suffered damage, both directly in the eyes of the recipients and by reason of the grapevine effect,” the judgment said."

Actually an appreciative change from the usual claims that when men are falsely accussed of sexual assault, it doesn't matter because it's claimed it only happens rarely and it doesn't effect the men anyway.

^ Just out of curiosity, do you avoid using the word 'kleenex' because of Kimberly-Clark's pleas to writers not to use it because of generic trademark issues?

30 or 40 years ago I thought it was too late for them.

^ Sorry to go completely off topic.

When I was a kid watching 'Romancing the Stone' Michael Douglas's character kept asking every hotel clerk if they had a 'Xerox' machine. I'd never heard that word; i thought this was some top secret machine he was looking for. I only knew years later.

I know American culture invades the whole world, but I say: no more Kleenex, Hoover, Jacuzzi, Xerox ...

It's tissue, vacuum, hot tub, photocopier ...

^^ Ha. No, I have never called tissue Kleenex. We don't say that in the UK. Or, no one I knew did. I used to say "hoover" to mean the vacuum cleaner but stopped since I moved to the states. People don't say it round these parts and I never liked that word very much anyway.

^^, ^ After I wrote that I remembered the different pop culture references I'd heard over the years.

I'm figuring in Britain, a vacuum cleaner can be referred to as a 'Hoover', whereas in America it refers to an actual vacuuming act.

To discuss further, I found this thread from fourteen years ago.

"Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush has been awarded $850,000 in damages and may receive millions more in lost earnings after he won his defamation case against Sydney tabloid The Daily Telegraph over reports accusing him of "inappropriate behaviour" towards a female co-star."

" ... awarded Mr Rush $850,000 in general and aggravated damages and said further damages would be awarded for economic loss after the parties had provided him with submissions.

Lawyers for Mr Rush had argued the actor was entitled to between $4.8 million and $20 million for lost future income.

The higher estimate was based on 10 years of potential lost earnings but Justice Wigney is expected to arrive at a lower figure."

The entire article:

Police in eastern Ontario say they've charged two more members of the same family in a series of historical sexual assaults alleged to have occurred between 1974 and 1991.

Provincial police said earlier this month they had charged four relatives, all men aged 57 to 67, in various incidents involving multiple victims.

They said the group faced 19 charges in total, with 12 laid against the 67-year-old. One of the accused was a youth at the time of the alleged offences.

Police now say their investigation has led to more arrests -- a 57-year-old man from Montague Township, Ont., and a 58-year-old man from Quyon, Que., also from the same family.

Both face a number of charges, including sexual assault, indecent assault on a male and gross indecency.

Police say the accused cannot be named in order to protect the identities of the victims. They also say the men were underage at the time of some of the alleged offences.

Excerpts from the article:

Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is speaking publicly for the first time about being sexually abused as a child, in the hope sharing his experience will help others.

In his new memoir, “Love & Courage” released Tuesday, Singh opens up about his experiences growing up Sikh and the bullying and racism he faced as a result, his relationship with his father, and the abuse he faced at the hands of a tae kwon do instructor.

In the book, Singh alleges that his martial arts instructor assaulted him around the age of 10, when he would go to the man’s house for “special training.” The instructor, now dead, was never charged and Singh says that not speaking up about his experience sooner is one of his “biggest regrets,” because if he had come forward it may have prevented someone else from being hurt by the coach. Singh names the man in the book, but he is also referred to as “Mr. N.”

Excerpts from the article:

A former sports reporter who has accused newly appointed Sacramento Kings head coach Luke Walton of sexual assault told reporters Tuesday she was scared to report the incident.

Kelli Tennant filed a lawsuit in a California court, saying she sustained physical injuries and suffered mental and emotional distress after Walton forced himself on her in a Santa Monica, California, hotel room, about five years ago.

He was an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors and she was a reporter, broadcaster and host for Spectrum SportsNet and SportsNet LA when the alleged assault took place, the lawsuit says. Although the lawsuit does not specify a date, Tennants's attorney said it happened in 2014.

"I am no longer comfortable staying silent about the things that have happened to me," she said at a news conference.

Tennant said she didn't tell her story publicly sooner because she feared what would happen.

"When someone assaults you and you think you are going to be raped, coming forward is a scary thing," she said. She added that she had hoped to bury the memories and time would help her heal, but that hasn't been the case.

Tennant/Walton case
1. She did not pursue a criminal case at time of assault.
2. She failed to tell her employer.
3. She lived & worked in the same market as him for years and did nothing. He gets a new job in Sacramento and then she files a lawsuit.
I feel no attachment to either party in this matter. She may in the end prevail in the lawsuit. I question the wisdom of her decision-making to this point.

People do that.

Men do it, too, when they are raped or molested. They aren't that keen to make a public announcement, either. Look at the Sandusky case. Victims as quiet as can be, coverups by the admin, and crickets all around.

And see what happens when you come forward? Somehow it's a bigger problem for some people that you might (maybe) have poor judgment than it is that someone is a sexual predator.

On top of that, rapists, molesters and pedophiles make it a point to target the weak and powerless. Hookers or drug addicts, who don't have good credibility in court, the mentally challenged, people with less social standing and less income (anyone from the wrong side of the tracks), porn stars and Playboy bunnies, lonely children without a good support network, people who report to them at work, etc.

It's not really poor judgment at all not to come forward. Life is complicated. People have families, kids to support, hard choices to make.

Would you be running to a microphone if you got raped by your coach?

^ I don't think I need to add anything to this. Oh, except maybe to highlight how people are treated when they do everything "correctly." They're whores/it was consensual; look at what she was doing or wearing or saying; why did she wait two hours? why did she shower? look she replied to his text message after he supposedly raped her. he's too hot/successful/charming to be a rapist etc etc etc etc etc. I know plenty of people who didn't report their rape and I completely understand why.

Don't question any of what you have posted. My initial comment was her behavior doesn't help her lawsuit. I'll stick with that. Interested to see if more comes out about Luke Walton. Guessing he would argue he is the victim here. So far, he has said nothing publicly and hired a big time lawyer.

A local foreign correspondent in America just wrote this.
"[Joe Biden is] making a bet that the Democratic Party has not drifted as far to the left as many people assume. Despite all the attention that congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez receives, many Democratic primary voters are older and more conservative. Biden is well placed to hoover them up."()
LOL! I've never heard a local use that term.

On thread topic: "Biden has an array of flaws.

[...] He recently apologised for invading womens' personal space then appeared to make a joke of it"

Excerpts from the article:

Lorena Bobbitt wants to set the record straight.

Not about how she cut off John Wayne Bobbitt’s penis with a kitchen knife as he slept in 1993. She did that, though she doesn’t recall the moment and was later acquitted by reason of temporary insanity.

Lorena, who now goes by her maiden name Gallo, wants to correct the image that she was just a vengeful wife. Inspired by shifting cultural tides around sexual assault, Lorena Gallo is determined to become more than a 1990s punchline and instead an advocate for victims of domestic violence.

“I have a voice and it only grew stronger,” she said this week in an interview with CTV News Channel’s Angie Seth.

Gallo has alleged that she faced years of abuse by her husband, who was acquitted of marital sexual assault in 1993. During the trials, the couple became the subject of late-night monologues and SNL sketches with Gallo as the stereotype of the angry wife. When the media moved on to the Tonya Harding and O.J. Simpson scandals, the legacy seemed all but cemented in the shape of a phallus. Her name became synonymous with castration. The term “Bobbittized punishment” was coined. Her husband would even go on to star in two pornographic films, one dubbing his reattached member the “Frankenpenis.”

YouTube singer Austin Jones has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for asking underage girls to send him sexually explicit videos of themselves to prove that they're fans.

Jones, 26, crooned a capella covers of popular songs and performed on tour nationwide. Most of the fans of the suburban Chicago singer were teenage girls.

The entire article:

A sex offender who was released into an Arkansas community this week despite claiming that he would rape the first woman he encountered is back in custody.

The Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office posted a warning about John West to its Facebook page on Monday.

“I am at a loss for words, I have no idea why they would make such a decision. to release [him] back to Hempstead County,” the office said in a reply to the post.

According to the post by Sheriff James Singleton, West was convicted of rape in 1996 after having sexual contact with a four-year-old girl who was living in his home.

He was arrested again April 26, this time for disorderly conduct, and taken to a hospital for evaluation. Hospital personnel warned the sheriff’s office that West said he had experienced hallucinations in which he was commanded to commit rape and planned to “rape the first woman he sees so he can come back to [prison].”

Singleton said West listed his address as being homeless in Hope, Ark., and claimed he would not stay on his medication once he was released from hospital.

The sheriff provided an update on Facebook Monday night, saying Ward had been taken back into custody and would remain there unless a judge orders his release.

McInnis is a former Olympic coach and director of Canada’s national athletics program. Porter was the president of the Ottawa Lions club.

Excerpts from the article:

R. Kelly spent much of Wednesday in court, with his lawyer explaining to one judge that the singer didn't respond to a lawsuit brought by one of his sexual abuse accusers because he is illiterate and with Kelly paying US$62,000 in back child support during a second hearing.

At the first hearing, Judge Moira Johnson vacated a default judgment she made against Kelly after the singer failed to respond to a lawsuit brought by one of the four women he's charged with sexually abusing. Johnson reinstated the lawsuit after one of Kelly's attorneys explained that the singer was in jail when he was served with the lawsuit documents and that Kelly didn't respond because he can't read.

The second hearing, which pertained to child support, came weeks after the judge in that case ordered Kelly to jail after finding him in contempt of court for failing to pay $161,000 in back child support to his ex-wife, who is the mother of his three children. Kelly remained locked up for three days until he raised the back child support.

A teacher at an Etobicoke school is facing charges in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a female student.

Police say that the accused, a teacher at Father John Redmond Secondary School, sexually assaulted the student in December, 2016 while on school property.

The accused was then arrested on May 1 following an investigation by the Toronto Police Service’s Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.

Justin Iozzo, 35, of Toronto, is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference.

Police say that Izzo has been employed by the Toronto Catholic District School Board since 2012 and has worked at Father John Redmond Secondary School since 2014. Prior to that he worked at Stella Maris Catholic School and St. John the Evangelist Catholic School.

The B.C. Supreme Court is expected to issue a decision today in the case of a former leader in a fundamentalist Christian sect that practises polygamy in Bountiful, B.C.

James Oler is accused of removing an underage girl from Canada to marry a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which operates in British Columbia and the United States.

He was acquitted in 2017 by a judge who was not convinced Oler did anything within Canada's borders to arrange the girl's transfer to the U.S., but the B.C. Court of Appeal agreed with the Crown that proof of wrongdoing in Canada was not necessary and ordered a new trial.

"... died in 2005. He was employed by the university from 1978-98"

"According to the report ... acts of abuse ranged from the overt - such as fondling to the point of erection and ejaculation - to more subtle acts of abuse that were masked with a pretextual medical purpose - for example, requiring a student-patient to strip completely naked to purportedly 'assess' an orthopedic condition, or asking probing questions about a student-patient's sexual practices or performance."

Continuing story:

Excerpts from the article:

There's "no room for doubt" that a former leader in a fundamentalist Christian sect that practises polygamy in Bountiful, B.C., knew that an underage girl who he removed from Canada to be married in the United States would be subject to sexual contact, a judge said Friday.

James Oler was found guilty of removing a 15-year-old girl from the community to the United States to be married to an older member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2004.

In delivering her decision, Justice Martha Devlin of the B.C. Supreme Court said Oler saw with substantial certainty that the girl would be expected to consummate the marriage immediately in order to "fulfil her role in bringing forward children in line with the divine mandate."

International police group Interpol said Thursday that nine people had been arrested in Thailand, Australia and the U.S. and 50 children had been rescued after investigators took down an online pedophilia ring.

More arrests were expected as police in nearly 60 countries pursue investigations stemming from an Interpol operation launched two years ago into a hidden "dark web" site with 63,000 users worldwide.

Fifty children were rescued following the arrests. Police are trying to identify an additional 100 in images that had been shared on the internet's uncharted corners.

Two men have been charged following an RCMP investigation which found 17 victims of child abuse on a Manitoba First Nation.

Police say several children between the ages of 3 and 15 were victimized by two men between 2011 and 2017 in the Garden Hill First Nation, a fly-in community located about 500 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

Paul Bruce Harper, 21, has been charged alongside a 20-year-old-man, whose name is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, with multiple counts of physical and sexual assault.
