So from 1 Jan 1980 to 31 Dec 1989 which studio albums do you think sold the most copies all around the world?

I'll assume #1 would be Thriller, but after that ...

I'll go with The Joshua Tree

Note, they could actually be pre-80s albums, that just sold highly in the 80s.

Please don't Google, that defeats the purpose.

I would agree with you about Thriller. I'll say Springsteen's Born to Run. Idk if its from the 80s though. Also I would imagine The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac would be on the list though Idk which albums. Eagles could be 70s though, Idk.

^ I think you mean Born in the USA ('84). (Born to Run was '75)

Now this was Springsteen's seventh album, but when it became huge, all his previous six albums were in the charts in the UK. Don't know about America - maybe his big fans already had them.

Other huge albums from the early to mid 80s:
Purple Rain
Slippery When Wet
True Blue.
Hmmm... Bad?
(Is this Madonna's most succ. album?)

"highest selling studio albums in America.

1. Thriller
2. Hotel California
3. Led Zeppelin IV
4. The Wall
5. Back in Black
6. Cracked Rear View"

^
Dark Side of the Moon is the remastered version of 2019 , plus The Dark Side of the Moon was published in 1973 both are out of range (1980-1989) While he could very likely sold more than any album published in range its sales 1973-1979 shouldn't be taken into account and I doubt the remaining sales however high could beat something fully in range Thriller for example

^ I agree. I'm just trying to demonstrate that the highest selling albums in the 80s don't necessarily have to be from the 80s. Wasn't 'The Dark Side of the Moon' in the American top 100 for most of the 80s?

Another obscure one I just thought of. The twentieth anniversary of 'Sargeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' was released in 1987, and I know that went to #1 all around the world, and sales greatly exceeded all expectations.

^^ Interesting spin-off question: What was the highest selling pre-80s studio album in the 80s?

^ You think all of those sold more copies in the 80s than 'The Dark Side of the Moon'?

How 'bout:
Bat Out of Hell
Rumours

thinking some more, I think I got it: The Wall('79).
(But... it was on that list I posted.)
