Wow, I remember reading these in the 90's (in the monthly version). I might need to pull them out and revisit it.

^I read the Martha Washington Goes to War series at some point long ago, but I didn't know back then that it was part of a larger series.

Really enjoying this collector's edition of C.S. Lewis's Narnia books with the original Pauline Baynes illustrations. Nostalgic.

I am rereading The Longest Day by Cornelius Ryan. The 1962 movie of the same name was based off of this book.

^ My English Lit semester paper in college was on Soviet Military Tactics, which actually focused on their horrible integration of inferior electronic parts into their modern equipment. For me I still come back to this as the basis of my needing to return to college and get my Masters degree in Military History. I might have to pick this one.

^The subject of the book I read is actually the Baader-Meinhof Group, not the Soviet Union's Red Army. I read it as a follow-up to Baader-Meinhof by Stefan Aust.

^ I remember reading that. I wish we could have conversations about these things rather than trying to provoke and pit groups of people against each other. I feel like Roiphe was trying to stir the pot and it wasn’t terribly useful.

Why Waco? Cults and the Battle for Religious Freedom in America by James D. Tabor and Eugene V. Gallagher. In light of the Waco miniseries that's been airing I decided to give Why Waco? a quick reread. It's an excellent book imo but a lot of time has passed and, especially in light of Kenneth Newport's The Branch Davidians of Waco, I'd say that it's about time for a second edition.

^ Be careful what you wish for. Hollywood has fucked up many great books. I love that book also but I'm afraid some studio will think that Michael Bay is the guy to direct the movie version.

Interesting. I've only known one person who had ever read anything by this most interesting man. Can I assume you are German?

^It's a book my dad owned when I was growing up. I didn't know who Paul Tillich was when I first picked it off the shelf.

I was going to say, Paul Tillich is hardly a household name, and his wife less so.

I’ve read Junger, including his sf novel The Glass Bees.
Storm of Steel is published by Penguin Classics, hardly an obscurity.
