^ I think the Dodgers' chances hinge on two former Detroit Tigers pitchers. Dave Price will get at least one start. Rick Porcello may get a start but will likely be the first guy out of the bullpen in a game or two. Both of them are career flaming gas cans in the postseason. If they continue their career trends the Dodgers can steal a game or two in Boston.

David Price was just fine for the Red Sox last night. With the Red Sox in complete control, the invasion of Dodgers Stadium by "Red Sox Nation" should be very noticeable on TV.

^ Yep. That was the Dodgers' best chance to steal one in Fenway. The way LA is looking in this Series, they won't need to pack their bags for a return to Boston.

^ I'll say lol Longest game in World Series history, 7 hrs 20 mins. Little side note, the Dodgers have not sold out all post season. They surely would sell out a World Series game right? Nope, according to ESPN attendance was 53,114. Capacity is 56,000. Pretty bad they can't even sell out for the World Series.

The analytics said Yasiel Puig does not hit lefties very well. Analytics did not predict the lefthanded pitcher would float a fastball dead center of the plate in Puig's wheelhouse.

I also heard that too! Thanks for the info about the Dodgers not being able to sell out during the World Series! Do you know of that happening before in another city?

^ When the Braves won all those division titles back in the day they did not sell out in the post season. When the Marlins were in the World Series they gave tickets to people to fill the seats lol The crowd could be less tonight with the Rams playing, plus the Dodgers fans come late amd leave early anyways lol

So far this Series is going more or less as I expected with the exception of Price and Porcello holding serve for the Red Sox. Except for Game 3, Dave Roberts may as send his BP guys out to the mound for all the good it is doing him relying on his bullpen. You could see the "WTF?!" faces in the LA dugout last night when their bats finally woke up to put up a four spot and the Dodger bullpen gave it back in less time than it took to run out to the kitchen to make a sandwich and warm up some soup.

The Red Sox were the best team all year and they proved it. Clayton Kershaw proved he is a choke artist in the postseason. And oh yeah the game didn't sell out...great job Dodger fans.

^ I don't think choke artist is a fair label to put on him. He has pitched well in a lot of his postseason appearances. The Dodgers gave him only one run tonight so he had no margin for error.

^ He came up small as usual, he is not a big game pitcher. I doubt he will ever win a World Series so he is going to be known for choking in the biggest moments. Look at David Price, choke artist..0-11 post season record, boom 3-0 since with a ring now. Kershaw needs a ring and to perform well to shut up the critics. Peyton Manning wqs a choker in big games until he won a Super Bowl. Winning a championship changes a lot.

That's now 11 championships for Boston's pro sports teams in 17 years. The list, with the year that they actually clinched each championship:
2002: Patriots
2003: NONE
2004: Patriots, Red Sox
2005: Patriots
2006: NONE
2007: Red Sox
2008: Celtics (And the Patriots reached the Super Bowl, lost to the Giants)
2009: NONE
2010: NONE (But the Celtics did reach the NBA Finals, lost to the Lakers in 7)
2011: Bruins
2012: NONE (But the Patriots did reach the Super Bowl, lost to the Giants)
2013: Red Sox (And Bruins made the Stanley Cup Final, lost to the Blackhawks)
2014: NONE
2015: Patriots
2016: NONE
2017: Patriots
2018: Red Sox (And the Patriots made the Super Bowl, lost to the Eagles)
That's fucking ridiculous. And like I mentioned before, this Boston sports dynasty ain't coming to an end anytime soon.

Going back to the Kershaw discussion...I kind of give him a pass for this postseason because he's clearly past his prime now. Prior to that? Okay, you can't make any excuses for him, he underperformed. I kind of liken him to Peyton Manning-both players are all-time great regular season players, but for whatever reason (Pressing? Choking?), they seriously underperformed in the postseason.
One more point to make about the 108-win World Series Champion Boston Red Sox: they're just the sixth team in the Wild Card era, which began in the 1995 season, to win the World Series after finishing the regular season with the best record in all of baseball ('98 Yankees, '07 Red Sox, '09 Yankees, '13 Red Sox, '16 Cubs, '18 Red Sox).

^ Kershaw is dismal in elimination games, 8 HR allowed (most all time) and an ERA north of 6.30. I don't give him a pass, sure he is past his prime but that's just another excuse for his poor performance.

So the Mariners and Mets made that Robinson Cano/Edwin Diaz trade official. It's a "win now" move for the Mets, although, it still sounds like they're going to trade away Noah Syndergaard this winter. As for the Mariners, they're in full rebuild mode now (they traded away James Paxton to the Yankees a couple weeks ago). With the change in direction, they've assured that their longest in the 4 major pro sports playoff drought will reach 20 years; this past season marked the 17th consecutive non-playoff season for the Mariners.

Remember the fussing from the Yankee fans when Mariners won the Cano sweepstakes. Now teams were being forced to take him if they wanted the prize, inexpensive relief pitcher.

Mariners continue to purge their roster by trading Jean Seagura to the Phillies for Carlos Santana and JP Crawford. As a Philles fan good riddance to both. Crawford was deemed untouchable in the minors and never showed anything in the bigs and was always hurt. Santana was just a terrible signing and is dumped after a year. Couldn't even crack a .230 avg. Now they can move Hoskins to first base where he belongs.

Yep, I'm surprised that the Phillies only had to give away Santana and Crawford to make it happen; just goes to show you how desperate the Mariners are to shed payroll. Even better for the Phils, the Mariners threw in two relief pitchers that could be of use.

Patrick Corbin to the Nationals. 6 yrs $140 million. The Yankees and Philles reportedly offered 5 yrs. Good move by the Phillies to not give in. Six years is too much for a pitcher and Corbin is a good not a great pitcher. He had a good season but Idt he can sustain that going forward. Idt he will live up to the contract. Being a left handed pitcher makes you very wealthy.

I didn't realize that the Nationals were even in the running for him, I only heard about the Phillies and Yankees pursuing him. To your point, I'm certainly not heartbroken about the Phils missing out on him, either. Props to him for killing it in his contract year, but his peroformance in 2018 seems to be more of an anomaly when compared to the rest of his pro career. With the big contract to Corbin, the Nationals have all but officially withdrawn themselves from the Bryce Harper sweepstakes, and I don't blame 'em. I'm still hoping the Phils end up with Machado, but with the acquisition of Jean Segura, I fear they may be more inclined to go after Harper now. With the Winter Meetings happening next week, we probably won't have to wait much longer to find out where both superstar free agents end up.

^ I'm hoping the Phils sign Harper. I don't want any part of Machado. He will not last in Philly...he dogs it down the first base line and has a number of incidents that has him border line dirty player. There's playing hard and playing dirty and I think he crosses the line at times. Stepping on the first baseman's foot once is an accident, twice is a trend. I think Harper has more production left in him over the next number of years whereas I think Machado is on the decline plus the baggage he brings.

LOL, the way you feel about Manny is the way I feel about Bryce. As far as I'm concerned, that shit about Machado is way overblown. I'll take the guy who is the better fielder (at a more important position) and the more consistent hitter.

^ LOL that's too funny! If we get Machado the first time he dogs it down the first base line he will get booed lol We do need more power in the out field. I imagine with all the money they have they should land one of them. I would like them to trade Herrera but Idk if he has any value. I'll give him to the Giants for Mad Bum lol

Red Sox sign Nathan Eovaldi to a 4 year deal worth 65+ million. Nobody would have predicted this type of deal last summer. Guy was making 2 mil & has had three arm surgeries. Consider all the major expiring contracts Sox are looking at in the next couple years, this is a questionable move. Oh well, screw that luxury tax.

So much for that thought...the meetings have come and gone, and neither Machado nor Harper has been signed. Watching MLB Network this morning, there's some speculation now that we might have to wait until like mid-January to find out where they're going.

The new year is upon us and Machado and Harper have not been signed. Unfortunately for me, the Phillies are apparently no longer the frontrunners for either one of them now. Word is that the Yankees are feeling good about landing Machado and the Dodgers are supposedly the favorites for Harper now that they freed up some payroll after that trade with Cincinnati. I wouldn't necessarily be shocked or disappointed if the Phils missed out on both, there was always the thought that GM Matt Klentak would pass on the two of them because of the outrageous asking prices and opt to go "big fishing" next offseason instead.

^ You know I didn't want Machado and I figured we wouldn't get Harper since we haven't been linked to him. They thing that bugs me though is when Any McPhal said "we are going to spend stupid money." Well that probably isn't good to say if yoy aren't going to actually spend "stupid money" to get one of those two guys. Idk how much other teams are offering but the Phillies have a ton of money and seem to be unwilling to spend it on big time free agents. I get not signing a pitcher long term and invest money but I thought they would pony up on either Harper or Machado.

^ Harper and Machado aren't worth the money they are asking. Yeah, they can run you up some good stats but both seem to be problems in the locker room. Machado showed on the biggest stage of the sport he has more ego than brains. He should have been suspended for intentionally stepping on the Brewer 1B in the NLCS. Harper has not performed well late in the season or in the postseason. They tote too much baggage for the money. Plus if either dogs it after cashing in, which is a great possibility with both, you have a lot of money sunk for years that you can't get rid of. If I were a GM I wouldn't seek a meeting with either. If their agents came with hats in hand I might talk then.

The Rays have taken out 5,000 seats and capacity is now just 26,000...10,000 less than the next smallest stadium. Them and the Marlins should move. The Rays won't even draw 15,000 and the Marlins can barely draw 10,000.

I'm not advocating signing either guy. They do have appeal, however. Both are really young to be on the market. Both have a ton of talent. Both have personality(attitude) that helps sell tickets & increase the local tv ratings. Did the Yankees have to win a World Series for the Alex Rodriguez deal to pay dividends? Not really, he created the excitement on & off the field that made it a success. That's why they signed him to an extension. The 2009 title was a bonus.

South Florida has awful fans. (Atlanta has the worst fans in America). The Dolphins don't get good support. They seem to be more of a college fan base. Pro teams are kinda an after thought. The stadium is nice in Miami but the team sucks they should move them where fans will support the team.

^ South Florida is a good sports market. The Dolphins have gotten good support considering they have been wallowing in mediocrity for the last 25 years. The may not sell out every single game, but the stadium is usually full for most home games.
The Marlins have been ignored by most fans because until recently they were owned by some of the crappiest owners in baseball. Founder Wayne Huizenga put together a World Series team in 1997 and the next year had a fire sale on every talented player to crash his payroll and maximize his profits. Six years later John Henry copied Huizenga's playbook step-by-step, winning a World Series in 2003 and dismantling the following year. Henry's final fuck you to Miami fans was selling the team to Jeffery Loria, universally recognized as not only the worst owner in baseball, but period!
Not only did Loria not field a competitive team to maximize his profits, he and Miami-Dade County officials screwed Miami residents with . Over the next 40 years, the Marlins stadium will cost the taxpayers nearly $2.4 BILLION!! All for a boring, generic ballpark.
It's true the Marlins have not been getting strong support from the fans, but that's because the Marlins have fucked them over in every way they possibly could since the team was created.
Derek Jeter and his team of investors are in the process of rebuilding the team from the ground up, which will take a few years to accomplish. This process included trading superstar Giancarlo Stanton, which was obviously not popular with fans. However, if they do things right, I believe they can bring the fans back to support the team and fill the stadium.
