Yep, it sure was a pleasure to watch. I was able to watch the whole game - and enjoy a couple pints of Yuengling - at a Center City bar before I hopped on the Broad Street subway to make my way to the Sixers game, which also turned out to be a Philly win.

The game looked great on TV, as the ballpark was packed and the weather was about as nice as you could expect for late March. It almost felt like a playoff game. Like I told the guy sitting next to me at the bar (who happened to be a Braves fan), this is the first time in 7 years that the whole city - diehard fans and casual fans - have been this excited about the Phillies. I'm really looking forward to going to my first game of the season this Sunday, although it sounds as though the weather won't be quite as nice (cold and windy).

^ Enjoy the game! Yeah its gonna be much colder Sunday, too bad you aren't going tomorrow. I feel the same way about the excitement around this team. I haven't been invested the last few years cuz I mean look at sone of the crap they ran out there. I still hate Herrera but the team is so much more likable now. It was so great to see the park full and hear the crowd roar. Idk if it was me but I felt like Kapler got more boos than cheers when he was announced. I still don't like him either but with this team he should look smart if they perform.

I love the energy at CBP. Its been years since I've heard it rocking. I was out and had the game on the radio on my way home and I got home in time to see Harper's first HR as a Phil. Franco is a dangerous eight hole hitter. This line up has lots of depth and Realmuto went deep. This is gonna be a fun team to watch and hopefully a fun summer. It would be great to sweep Atlanta tomorrow. Division wins are always key even if it is March.

The strong winds Sunday night made it tough to sit through the whole game at CBP, but I did. I got a nice T-shirt and, much to my surprise, I actually got to see a "Bryce bomb." If not for the winds, that HR would've been another "second-decker" like his first HR the day before. Speaking of that first one, I actually talked to the ballpark usher of that section (Section 201) where the ball landed. He said that it hit a woman in the shoulder and that it actually left a black-and-blue mark on her. He said that she was from Tennessee and that it was her friend sitting next to her - also from Tennessee - who actually got the ball; I didn't ask the usher, but I think they might've been Atlanta Braves fans. I found it curious that there were no reports on the local news about who actually caught the ball; you'd think that if it was a Phillies fan, that person would be on the news.

EDIT: I just found this, it was indeed a Braves fan:

^ Yeah I read an article about that on Facebook. I'm going to ve getting a Bryce Harper royal blue t-shirt and the Harper powder blue throwback jersey. No doubt that ball be hit to RF is way out without wind. I won't be able to see the game tomorrow cuz its on NBC Philadelphia+ and I don't have that. They are showing the Flyers on the main NBC Philly which is lame cuz they are not playoff bound so who cares! I'll have to catch the highlights.

What about MLB Network, do you have that? I believe MLBN will be airing both games of this Phillies-Nationals series today (7 PM) and tomorrow (1 PM).

^ No I don't have MLB Network either! NFL Network but that doesn't help me. I have been checking the score on my phone and looking at the box score. I'm stoked Bryce hit a HR in his return and Franco has 3 HR now...from the 8 hole and it was off Scherzer. About to be 4-0 and still on pace for 162-0 lol

^ If you are in a Philadelphia sports market you should be able to get access to Phillies games on NBSCN Philly on the NBC Sports app or the My Teams NBC Sports app. You would use the app and they will authenticate you via your cable/satellite provider. I get the MLB Extra Innings package on the satellite and that comes with the bonus of full access to all the features and televised games on the MLB At Bat app.

^ I have NBC Philadelphia but not NBC Philadelphia+. I tried the my teams app but you have to pay for it through your cable provider. I can see most games, usually miss games early in the season when NBC Philadelphia shows the Sixers or Flyers. Thanks for the suggestions.

What about the NBC Sports app? Do they carry your regional sports the way Fox Sports Go does? I have DirecTV and get access to FSG through them.

^^ I don't believe so. I haven't tried but I imagine they would charge me through my cable provider. I tried to stream stuff through the ESPN app and they wanted me to pay so I didn't pursue trying to watch stuff. I don't have DirecTV so that could be why. I can deal with missing a handful of Phillies games cuz there are 162 games and I know I will see the playoff games. I always see Eagles games no matter which network cuz I am in the Philadelphia market for the major networks.

Great night for the Phillies, terrible night for the Nationals. Along with losing the game, Bryce Harper stickin' it to them and a sizable group of Phillies fans occupying their ballpark, the Nationals' shortstop, Trea Turner, broke his right index finger when he attempted to bunt early in the game. He will be out indefinitely.

A couple noteworthy items through these first six or so days of the season:

-Seattle Mariners (7-1) are off to their best start in franchise history

-Boston Red Sox (1-5) are the first defending World Series champion to lose five of their first six games since the 1998 Florida Marlins

-Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays are off to 5-1 starts

That year was the first time the Phillies franchise won the National League pennant. They had some pitcher who was pretty good by the name of Pete Alexander, a.k.a. Grover Cleveland Alexander. They lost the World Series in five games to the Boston Red Sox, who also had a pretty good pitcher by the name of Babe Ruth. It would be another 35 years (1950) before the Phillies returned to the World Series.

Fun fact: The Philadelphia Phillies are the only team in MLB history to have played all five teams from one (current) division in the World Series, that division being the American League East. The Phillies' meetings against each A.L. East team were-Red Sox (1915), Yankees (1950, 2009), Orioles (1983), Blue Jays (1993), Rays (2008).

^ Great fun fact about the Phillies, I didn't even realize that! The way the Phils fans took over the park last night is exactly what the Eagles fans did to the Skins stadium. Even today when the Nats fans booed Harper you heard the Phils fans cheering more over the boos. Not good Nattitude lol

The Mariners have mashed the most HRs through 12 games in MLB history with 32. I would not have thought that...I can't name a single player in their lineup besides Encranation.

On the flip side Chris Davis of the O's broke the hitless streak record last night. We is 0-47 dating back to last season. He is 0-26 this year. He is owed $92 million still and has basically forgot how to hit all of a sudden. Its mental at this point. Baltimore can't even trade him cuz no one would take him.

Trevor Rosenthal of the Nationals has yet to record an out in five appearances this season. His ERA is infinity and when he finally records an out it will still be a robust 189.00.

Rhys Hoskins of the Phillies has been locked in and taking advantage of Bryce Harper hitting in front of him. Hoskins has 3 HR in the last two games and has been a huge reason for the Phils' last two wins.

It sure would be ironic if the Seattle Mariners, whose ownership and management had no intention of winning this season, actually ended their postseason drought this year. When, for the past 10+ years, they actually were trying to make the playoffs.

Among the bad contracts in baseball, that one for the Orioles and Chris Davis is one most people forget about. It wasn't one for 10+ years, but to realize that it lasts until the end of the 2022 season makes it seem like an eternity, given his rapid decline and current hitless streak. Go figure, the one time the Baltimore Orioles actually paid big bucks for a guy.

Trevor Rosenthal actually recorded outs tonight in the Nationals' come-from-behind victory in Philly tonight. The Phillies blew a 6-1 lead. Needless to say, the struggles of Aaron Nola and most of the relievers is concerning right now.

Also worth noting, the Boston Red Sox finally played their home opener after a brutal west coast road trip to start the season. Despite being at home and having their championship ceremony before the game, they still lost to the Blue Jays. Chris Sale is 0-3 and the team is now 3-9.

^ Depsite Seattle's 11-2 start they will not make the playoffs. I would be shocked if they did. The Mets started 11-1 last year and then went down the toilet. Its only a matter of time until that happens to Seattle.

As for the Phillies, I knew pitching would be the issue. I didn't expect Aaron Nola to struggle so much and if it continues that is a huge problem. The bullpen is a mess and there isn't anything to be done now. Can't fix it with a trade yet. There is no clear cut closer and that is a problem. Idt Craig Kimbrel is the answer but he is probably better than the crap they put out there now. Hector Neris is not a closer. I thought Dominguez could be. Maybe they put him in the roll again after some better outings. The dude who served up the HR should be in Lehigh Valley right now. I'm sure a move will be made soon to maybe send down and call someone up. I would try Dominguez in the closers role. The Phils should be 9-1 but are 7-3 cuz of the bullpen and Aaron Nola's struggles. If the bullpen continues to blew games no playoffs cuz if they can't hold a 6-1 lead the offensive output will be cancelled out by a poor bullpen. Most nights 6 runs is enough and 8 like last week but the pen blew both games...both of whom to the Nationals.

The Phillies got rocked tonight, 15-1. The pitching woes continue. Nick Pivetta 3.2 7 ER. This guy either is decent or gets lit up. I've had enough of him. The bullpen got touched up as well. Why Eubray Romas is on the team still amazes me...he is trash. Wish they would send him to Lehigh Valley. Hopefully a dose of the pitiful Marlins this weekend will get the pitching on track.

I had a feeling Nick Pivetta was gonna get rocked by the Nationals again...because I saw it happen in one of the games I went to last season. Looking it up now, it was June 29th of last year, he gave up 7 runs in the 1st inning and the Nationals won, 17-7. Oh, and the Nationals hit a total of 7 home runs in the game! That game was especially brutal to sit through because it was one of the two games last season that had postgame fireworks. But, yeah, after tonight's dreadful performance, Pivetta might not be in the starting rotation much longer. Actually, I've never heard an explanation as to why they did it, but why in the world have they made him the #2 starter to begin the season?

^ I was thinking of that game eariler as well when Pivetta was getting lit up. It sucks you had to sit through it last year. I think all Phillies fans are wondering why this guy is the #2 starter. He is a #4 or #5 at best. Areitta should be #2, hell even Efflin. At least he has been good thus far. Out of Pivetta, Velasquez and Efflin at least Efflin has shown something. Enough is enough. I just hope the Phillies aren't blind and keep putting him out there if he continues to fail. Well they kind of are blind cuz he has had plenty of chances and he never improves.

Chris Davis' amazing hitless streak is over. Red Sox Rick Porcello has been dreadful this season and he gave up the streakender. Now all Davis has to do is turn into Ty Cobb for a couple months if he is to get his average up to .200.

What do you have, that MLB Extra Innings package?

One thing I noticed this weekend is that the Houston Astros cooled off the Seattle Mariners. The M's came into the weekend series (in Seattle) with a 13-2 record, the 'Stros proceeded to sweep 'em.

I am now officially worried about Aaron Nola. His control has been awful thus far. Another poor performance last night. He is no where near the guy he was last year. If he doesn't turn it around its curtains for the Phillies. The offense has to get it going as well. Too many strikeouts lately. Bryce Harper also needs to come through in the clutch. Andrew McCuthen has been solid. Great base running and last night a key hit that should have scored Scott Kingery. Poor baseball IQ on Kingery's part. He should have left first much sooner on a 3-2 count with two outs. If he did he probably scores. I have low expectations for Pivetta tonight. Comes into the night with a 9.45 ERA.

What a first inning for the Phillies and a nightmare for the Mets tonight. Steven Matz is only the 6th pitcher since 1893 to allow 8 R without recording an out in the first inning. The Mets' defense was also pitiful. Kingery has been hot lately, 11 for his last 17 and Makiel Franco has 6 HR from the 8 hole. Nick Pivetta was okay, he still didn't show me too much. Jared Eickoff looked pretty good out of the pen, had a good breaking ball. He could be an option in the rotation if Pivetta continues to struggle. If Kingery continues to hit well he may play his way into the line up and finally take Cesar Hernandez's job.

It's good to know that even though they have deGrom, the Mets have some bad starting pitchers, too. Sucks for those Mets fans who were at the ballpark. Hey, at least it was "Dollar Dog Night!"

Sounds like Segura might miss a couple games after sustaining a hamstring injury tonight, so "Scotty Jetpacks" should get a couple starts at shortstop here. Of course, second base is his natural postion and, if you ask me, he's gotta take the reins from Cesar Hernandez sooner rather than later. Considering his potential, not to mention the financial commitment the team has already made to him, they can't keep this kid on the bench. It's not like Cesar is playing great baseball, anyway.

Oh, by the way...the Astros have won 10 straight, Chris Sale is 0-4 (Red Sox are 6-12) and Christian Yelich has homered in 7 straight games against the Cardinals; 8 of Yelich's 9 home runs this season have come against St. Louis. Speaking of home run streaks, the Mariners have hit a HR in 20 straight games now, a league record by a team to start the season. However, the M's have suddenly lost 5 games in a row.

^ I knew the M's would fall off the map. The Red Sox are already 7.5 games out. That is a huge number in mid April. Their pitching woes are unreal and Sale has been a mess. If their pitching doesn't get better they will be in serious trouble.

I agree with you about Kingery. Why the Phillies keep troting Hernandez out there is beyond me. Once Sergura is healthy and if Kingery continues to perform Hernandez should finally be on the pine. I've always hated him.

Nick Pivetta was optioned to AAA and I was pumped when I got the update on my phone. I'm glad we did it now. The dude had a 10-0 lead last night and wasn't very good. Jared Eickhoff will take his spot in the rotation (as I said could be a possibility last night). Though his first start is in Colorado which is gonna be a tough task.

Rangers first baseman Joey Gallo made some unusual history today. Gallo hit his 100th career HR and he is the first player to hit 100 career HR before hitting 100 singles. Gallo has 93 singles in his career.

Jared Eickoff continues to pitch well for the Phils. Eight shut out innings today will continue to keep Pivetta in AAA. The rest of the NL East is weak. The Mets and Nats are falling off and the Braves are floating around .500. Vince Velasquez should be moved to the pen. I'm sick of seeing him not go five innings, he is not a starter and wish the Phils would finally give up on him.

The Mariners are 6-16 since their hot 13-3 start.

Phillies are just starting to play well as the competition in the division (Braves, Mets, Nationals) is scuffling. Braves just got swept by the Dodgers and fell below the .500 mark. Mets are 3-7 in their last 10 and Jacob deGrom is suddenly no longer invincible. And I know it's early, but the Nationals are looking really bad and you kind of get the feeling that they might not be around in September. They have sustained a lot of injuries, so maybe they'll be better when they get healthy, but I'm already feeling like that's a division winner pick I got wrong. And the Phillies, they're winning even though Bryce Harper has been damn near terrible for 30+ days now. Even I couldn't have imagined him being this bad early: .231 AVG through 36 games played.

As for the rest of the league, the team that stands out to me early on is the Minnesota Twins. They look legit and the Cleveland Indians look mediocre; this might be another division winner pick I got wrong. Also of note, after a horrendous start to the season, the Boston Red Sox appear to be getting their act together. Their win in Baltimore tonight got them to .500 for the first time this season (19-19).

^ I agree with you about the Twins. I was going to mention them. They are the biggest surprise thus far. I picked them to be a Wild Card team but I did not think they would win the division but they might if they continue to play well. As for the Nats they are a paper team. I had them in 3rd place. Dave Martinez is the most clueless manger in baseball. If they don't turn it around they won't be a factor in July let alone September.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention there was a no-hitter thrown in Oakland on Tuesday night. A's pitcher Mike Fiers threw the second no-hitter of his career against the Cincinnati Reds; his first came back in 2015 when he was with the Astros. I actually saw it, MLB Network cut in to their regular late night programming to show the top of the 9th, and there weren't many people in that dump of a stadium to see it. The start of the game was actually delayed for like over an hour because of malfunctioning stadium lighting, so that was another reason why the crowd to witness the feat was so sparse.

Actually, that game Saturday made it 15 straight times that the A's have beaten the Tigers; Oakland has a 15-game winning streak against Detroit. Just when it looked like the A's were going to make it 16 straight on Sunday in Detroit, the game was suspended after 7 innings because of rain, with the A's up 5-3. And it's not like they're going to resume the game tomorrow...the game is now scheduled to resume 3 1/2 months from now on September 6 in Oakland. So, the game will start in one city and finish in another!

This weekend, the Phillies swept the Rockies in Philly while the Mets got swept by the worst-in-baseball Marlins (13-31) in Miami. Braves won two of three against the Brewers in Atlanta. Braves are 2 1/2 back of the Phillies, while the Mets (6 1/2 back) and Nationals (8 back) continue to struggle. After all the talk of the N.L. East being so competitive (minus the Marlins) going into this season, it's starting to look like it'll only be a two-team race. Most shocking of all, for Philly, this weekend was that Bryce Harper actually got some extra-base hits! He actually hit a home run in consecutive games!

^ Hopefully Harper is heating up. Not only did the Mets get swept but they got shut out back to back games and were one hit in one of those games. I agree the NL East is a two team race, the Mets and Nats are done. I was looking at the standings across the league last night and of the 30 teams (in my opinion) 16 teams are already done for 2019 so that means just 14 teams are in the playoff mix. Lets already give the Astros the AL West. The Twins continue to be the biggest surprise.

Minnesota Twins (33-16) have the best record in baseball. Not only are they winning, but they're crushing home runs at a historic pace-they've hit 98 HRs in their first 49 games, only the '99 Mariners (102) have hit more in the first 50 games of a season. They've already got an 8-game lead over the second place Indians.

Right behind the Twins for best record are the New York Yankees. Despite all their injures, somehow the "Bronx Bombers" are still kickin' ass. Playing the Orioles has helped, their sweep in Baltimore this week made them 7-0 against the Orioles.

The Rays set a new low for attendance today with a pitiful 5,786. Its not like they are an awful team either. Minor league teams have more people at their games.

Things are falling apart quickly for the Phillies-they've lost 5 straight and the injures just contine to mount. In their latest loss tonight, they got beat in San Diego, 8-2, as Manny Machado capped off the rout with a grand slam in the 6th. Earlier in the game, Andrew McCutchen (the Phillies' leadoff hitter) sustained what appeared to be a serious knee injury; an MRI later today will reveal whether or not he's done for the year. He will be the latest addition to the team's already crowded injured list, which currently has 6 relievers (including high-priced offseason acquisition, David Robertson) and 1 starter. Oh, and their center fielder to start the season, Odubel Herrera, is out indefinitely as the investigation into his Memorial Day weekend domestic violence incident continues. Players not in the lineup aside, this team just isn't what it was cracked up to be, especially when it comes to the batting lineup. When it comes to power numbers, home runs and slugging percentage, the team has turned out to be one of the weakest ones in the National League; its low batting average and high strikeout rate only makes matters that much worse. As for the pitching, the bullpen is obviously a mess while every guy in the starting rotation - including Aaron Nola - is proving to be frustratingly unreliable; it was Nola, by the way, who took the "L" in San Diego tonight. With all that being said, the team still sits atop the NL East, though the Braves are only a half-game back and the Mets are suddenly within range at 4 1/2 back.

Friends -

After a terrible weekend up in L.A., the Phillies are here in San Diego. My son and I are goin' to Petco for their Wednesday afternoon matinee against the Padres. For years we've had a standing dinner bet on the games we attend when the Phils come in to play the Pads. With the way the wheels are falling off for the Phillies, looks like I may be paying tomorrow night.

Also driving up to Anaheim for Mariners - Angels on Saturday. Got a couple of buds who are Angels fans so that should be a good trip.

McCuthen would be a huge loss. I said last week that the Dodgers would sweep the Phils thus the Braves will be in first place by the end of the week...it may be sooner than that. I was looking up the offensive numbers and they are pretty putrid. As for Herrera I never wanna see him again. Even before the incident he is my most hated Philadelphia athlete of all time. He is a dumb ass with zero baseball IQ. I hope we just cut him. Gabe Kapler will pay the price and be fired at season's end. This is not a 93 win team like I thought...I'm going down to 85, no playoffs. They are becoming unwatchable plus with the late start times lately I don't even bother watching.

Have a great time! Hopefully the Phils will show up tomorrow. It will also be awesome seeing Mike Trout in person.

^^^^^^
PHILLY26 -

Every time I see Mike Trout rakin' another line drive into the gap or jumpin' over another fence to rob somebody of a home run, all I can think about is how much he wanted to be a Phillie while growin' up in South Jersey.

*Sigh*

^ *Sigh* I feel your pain BSD!!! I always think of that myself. Too bad the Angels locked him up cuz it would have been great to have him come home. Its so awesome that he is in the stands at the Linc and not in box seats. Just shows how much of a regular guy he is. He is easy to root for and plays the game the right way and just goes about his business day in and day out.

It's official-Andrew McCutchen suffered a torn ACL and is done for the season. Phillies have called up outfield prospect Adam Haseley and he will be playing in center field tonight; the newly acquired Jay Bruce will be getting the start in left. 2B Cesar Hernandez takes the place of McCutchen in the leadoff spot. Oh, and Bryce Harper gets bumped up one spot in the lineup, going from batting third to second.

C'mon, guys, no need to cry about Mike Trout not coming to the Phillies anymore...I hear this kid Haseley might be just as good!
