Eels is a couple of weeks. This'll be the third time. Last time I had to put tissue in my ears, first time I've ever done that at any concert - I must be getting old.

i always curse myself when i forget ear plugs -- which is most of the time -- because i hate not hearing anything the next day. it gets less and less bad each time i do it though. must be losing my hearing.

Last: A bunch of local bands squaring off to win a gig at Wacken Open Air. Every metalhead in town came out of the woodwork that night. (last weekend)
Next: Paul Di'Anno. (next weekend)

How was it?
I have been criticized by many friends for thinking Di'Anno is a better rock vocalist then Dickinson. While that argument is not worth having what is Paul's own band like? I have never heard them but heard of them lots.
EDIT: I jumped the gun on that post. Fill me in when you have seen them play please.

It was great, just got home after watching it now. The joint wasn't even half full, but Di'Anno nonetheless gave it all. Thumbs up to him for kicking ass, great energy on stage. He even did a Ramones-cover (!), and lots of old Maiden-stuff. Very cool. Anyway, I'm not 100% sober now, need to get some sleep. I'll get back to it, but you know - yeah! - rock 'n' roll!

I forgot to mention, he played with a band of locals. I don't know if it's special for this tour or not, but he has a new band in each country he visits. They were very good musicians, obviously they have had to show their worth before landing the gig somehow. I was told he was quite grumpy backstage before the gig too, but got coked up good before he hit the stage. He was really on fire during the show, which was cool since there were only some 250 people in the audience.

How did you like the show? I was at the show on Saturday, April 19. I had never heard Job for a Cowboy's music, and when I walked in, my whole body was shaking from the double bass blast beats from the drummer. Excellent stuff. The only thing that I was disappointed with, was Bodom only played 8 or 9 songs. And the set was interrupted at the start of the 3rd song because someone was getting crushed by the crowd at the front. We had to wait 15 minutes while they repaired the barricade. But though, Bodom was on their shit, and played great.

Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR
conducted by Sir Roger Norrington
Nicholas Angelich, piano

Johannes Brahms
Pïano Concerto No 2
Anton Bruckner
Symphony No 6.

Angelich was outstanding playing Brahms, probably the best piano concerto performance I've ever heard in concert, along with Martha Argerich in Mozart's 20th.

Bad luck Dither, he doesn't tour a lot in Europe. Don't know the tour schedule but maybe he'll be playing more places, I know he's performing in Barcelona on April 29 or 30.
Anyway enjoy Amsterdam ! There'll be plenty of gigs to attend around that time. Not to mention the other attractions....

^ Will do, I did the last time I was there. BTW; is there any good website that keeps updates on "what's happenin'"? Like a culture calendar of some sort?

played tonight - it was perfect! Seats in the middle, three rows back, uninterrupted view - great sound, wonderful musicians, fantastic range of their best stuff - many that move me to tears. They screened E's documentary about his physicist father prior to the gig - the whole thing was fab. Loved it, great night out.

Yeah, I thought he was great as well, did you hear his live album too ?
By the way you're in for a treat with Mike Stern as well. Saw him many times and he always delivers. He's so tight...
Most memorable was a gig at the 55 bar in NY, only 4 or 5 other guests and a smokin' Mike Stern 3.

I don't have any albums of or much knowledge about Mike Stern (except I know he's in the premier league of jazz). I've seen a few Youtube-clips but not much more. The main reason why I took note of that concert is that Dave Weckl is with the band. I have four or five albums with Dave Weckl and think he's perhaps the best drummer around these days.

I just saw Eric Clapton. He still sounds great but I was disappointed in the set list. Almost all blues and only 4 or 5 hits. I'm going to see The Raconteurs next week, should be real good.

Free concert yesterday in Pasadena - Autolux, The Ravonettes (with Sharon's sister standing in as Sharon is pregnant), and the alt spanish language band Kinky. It was a great concert, but a miserable experience standing in direct sunlight in 105 degree heat. I was drenched in sweat.

I saw the Raconteurs and My Morning Jacket in the last couple of weeks.
The Raconteurs were very good as usual.
It was the first time I was seeing MMJ live. One of the best shows I have ever seen.
The next one is Stone Temple Pilots in a couple of weeks.
