I just got home from a concert with Bobby McFerrin that was very funny. The definitive highlight was an improv with local choir "Svartlamon Hardkor". Svartlamon is sort of a local mini-version of the Freetown in Copenhagen; an autonomous neighborhood that is populated with anarchists and other radicals and deviants. "Hardkor" literally translated means "hard choir" but is a wordplay on "hardcore" since they're anarchists and thus very into punk. They can't sing for shit, but have tons of "fuck you"-attitude. It was very apparent that McFerrin had a blast and the whole thing was a great laugh.

I saw Crue Fest last the thursday before last (Motley Crue, Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Sixx:AM, and Trapt) in Dallas. On August 9th I have VIP tickets for the only Ozzfest anywhere all year!!! With of course Ozzy but also Metallica in their only concert appearance this year!

is that part of their lights in the sky tour? if so, i am deeply envious. i've seen them before, but their stage show wasn't very special. the youtube footage of their current tour is just.... wow....

i saw their sideshow. it's kind of a watered down version of disasterpieces. hopefully their arena tour means they'll bring their A game.

i am lowercase.
it sucks that jeordie isn't in the band any more. have you heard his goon moon stuff? it's even on ipecac. i actually like it more than the slip.
did you get the limited edition of that? i did, but i haven't watched the dvd yet.

OMFG!!! The NIN show was mind-blowing! Trent's voice was beyond amazing. In fact, just about everything was beyond amazing.
The band was just fine without Jeordie. Not only haven't heard his Goon Moon stuff, hadn't even heard of it. It's really that good, huh?

i want to see them again now. i hope they bring that show here. not that it's likely. i can still hope though.
oh, hell yes. super catchy avant garde stuff. it's him and chris goss, part time queens of the stone age guy. so it sounds similar to qotsa, but also very different.

Looks like they might be getting a little extra mileage out that Disfigured Night costume

I would have loved to have seen that too. I had a friend who attended the Mole Show in D.C. at the time, and he claimed that a guy in the parking lot took him over to the back of his little hatchback car and showed him one of the Residents eye masks that he had stolen from backstage. Ironically it was shortly after this that I started noticing the one Resident wearing the black mask instead of an eyeball. I had no idea if that had anything to do with the eye mask theft, but it was a pretty funny coincidence.

I remember seeing them 'interviewed' (they mostly shook their balls in their hands in sorrow...eyeballs I should say) on MTV around the time of the theft. It's odd to recall that One Minute Movies, It's A Man's World, Hello Skinny and even Third Reich used to be showed on TV with some frequency.

Do you remember when they used to be back in the 80's? That was the very first time I had ever saw them.

Sweet.
By the way, was Molly Harvey with them for this? She seems to have dropped off the Resi grid in the last couple project, loved her stuff with them, esp. Demons Dance Alone.
Are you familiar with her

Aha, so that's the female presence in some of their later work. I had missed a chuck of their output during the late 90's/early 00's, but I remember downloading a Residents song off of napster around that time, a really creepy rhyme about a crashing plane that used to give me the chills, and it was sung by a female. I was wondering what was up with that. I really like her drawing style, though. AND she went to VCU, which was where I was trying to go back in the 80's.
Thank you for that link!

Awesome. Good heavens, the miracle invention that is youtube. I remember a time when finding anything on video from The Residents involved rooting through bins at collector's shows or hoping to connect with a friend of a friend of a friend. Nowadays it's so accessible I completely forget to even search for it, because I'm still trapped in that futile mindset. So much I still need to see and hear!
