Fang Island next month.
I'm hoping some Pearl Jam tickets get released near day of the show. I missed out on the original sales date and now the only tix are behind the stage. I'm hoping for the shows in Worcester and Hartford.
Anybody had luck getting tickets near the day of the show?

Slipknot/Korn is coming to Baltimore Nov 19th. Whoo!
I am 45, so neither band is one that is part of my teenage/college years. Slipknot's first album didn't come out until I was 30.
I don't own any of Slipknot's albums and I only have two Korn albums Follow The Leader and Issues.
But I have kept up with each's releases on the 'net and metal web sites. In fact its kinda funny, now that I think about it -- this will be the first concert I've attended where I know the two bands almost completely via Youtube, iTunes, etc. Slipknot has a legendary live show so I'm greatly looking forward to it. I suspect Myload, Ashlii or Ma Meshka could tell me more about them. Its too bad they will be without Paul Gray and Joey Jordison.
My tickets are for General Floor admission, but I know already I won't be directly up front in the pit like I used to do. I'm too old for that shit now! I can't compete with these younger dudes, so I'll just hang out in the back. But I can't see a day coming where, if it's a hard rock act, and there's GA seating, that I'll pass that up and just take a seat in the stands. When that day comes I will just have myself fitted for dentures and get a walker and a bedpan.

Tonight a friend in Austin said his friend has an extra 4th row ticket for Ringo Starr in Austin next month for $100. At that price I can't pass it up.

Slipknot -- and I realize this is a cliché, but there's really no other way to put it -- FUCKING Kicked ASS.
I mean, there's just nothing else to say. Even given the fact that Slipknot's entire raison d'etre is to Fucking Kick Ass, the sheer amounts of Ass That Was Fucking Kicked was still quite substantially surprising.
Like I said above, my plan was to just hang out nonchalantly in the back and just take in the show, the crowd and everything. However, by the time the lights when down, I suddenly realized I was no longer "in the back" but was, in fact, surrounded by the huge crowd. Egads! How did this happen! Y'all just excuse me, I'm just gonna ease my way to the rearBOOOOOM!! The music starts, the Eight masked men come out and holy shit, I'm in the middle of one of what looked like at least three fucking moshpit.
I tried shouting to no avail: "Guys guys waitlemme out of here! I'm 45 years old!! I'm almost eligible for AARPAAAAAAAAAGOOOH!!! MY SPLEEEN!!!
Seriously though, good time. Holy shit, that's one of the best metal concerts I've ever been to and I've been to a few.

If I had the time, I'd hop on Amtrak and go down there for this or at least to their show in Charlotte. Fuck, DC NEVER gets good shows.

I've seen Slipknot a bunch and I'm seeing them again next year. I can't wait to see them again, every time they destroy. Even if you don't like them you can get into them.

Metallica in Baltimore tonight.
I'm of two minds about it...on the one hand it was great! They are Metallica, and they put on a Metallica Show. Their music is ideal for being played live --
they are -- probably quite inadvertently -- one of the most singalong friendly catalogs out there. There was even a miniature fireworks display! Not sure if that's going to be every night, or if that was just because it was the tour kickoff and all.
But on the other hand -- they're now comfortably a nostalgia band. I don't know how other people feel, but I'm like, shit, we're not a bunch of poseurs out here guys -- you can play some deeper cuts. - And while, yeah, "play more from St Anger" is not exactly a widespread sentiment, there are some songs from that that could be crowd pleasers -- "Invisible Kid", "Frantic" for instance -- especially if they're edited down in the live format. Exposing their base elements can give overlooked songs new life.
But that's the extent of my quibble. Well at least of things that were within the bands' control.
FUCKING TRAFFIC IN VIRGNIA IS INSANE. And finding a parking spot in Baltimore is equally grotesque!

^Oh, and I am genuinely grateful for good weather. For a while, weather reports were making it seem like nighttime temps were going to be mid-high 50s, something you're just not expecting in May. Indeed, on Tuesday morning, some areas here had mild frost on their car windows. But the weather out here was fucking great tonight, so, no complaints there.

I haven't seen a concert in almost a year but hoping to see one during the summer. The last concert I saw was Lights in Philly and I was front row.
