The mom detained in Mexico for 'having kilos of marijuana' is back in the U.S. I'm sure she was hugely aided by all the publicity -- photos of innocent-looking mom, with innocent-looking daughter weeping on tv, and reporting that they were originally told it would all go away for $5,000, but then told that it was too late for that.

But I like my individual news posts that only get 10 views and 0 responses.
I think this is a good idea and will post some stuff when I find it.

Yeah, I thought it would be good for all the little things that don't get a lot of attention, and don't generate a bunch of controversy, conflict and replies.

^ This is just way too much information but than again in Douglas...
In a recent interview about his battle with throat cancer, Michael Douglas revealed exactly how he got it.
He said he gave some cunnilingus to a woman who gave him HPV, and this particular strain gave him throat cancer. He battled it for a few years but has been clean ever since.

Two tidbits.
Michelle Obama, responding to a heckler, said, "One of the things I don't do.......well, is this." She told the heckler that only one of them could have the mic, but if it was going to be the heckler, she was leaving. The audience removed the heckler. The heckler was complaining about an executive order the LGBT community would like the president to sign that says that federal contractors can't discriminate based on LGBT status.
Also. In Philadelphia, a building was undergoing a permitted, controlled demolition, when "something happened" and the apartment complex next door was destroyed, with people inside. Also, a portion of that building evidently fell on the Salvation Army next to it, leaving the walls standing, but collapsing the roof and burying some people inside. One dead, so far, and thirteen or so in the hospital, and they are still searching for people inside. These are early reports, subject to the usual revisions for misinformation.

Michael Jackson's 15 year old daughter Paris attempted suicide last night and was rushed to the hospital for cuts to her arms. All reports say she's currently doing ok but will need psychological treatment for her problems.

Stephen Fry said he attempted suicide last year in what he described as "a close run thing".

The actor and writer, who has spoken openly in the past about depression and previous suicide attempts, told comic Richard Herring he tried to kill himself while filming abroad.

During a recording for Herring's podcast on Monday night which was was transcribed on the British Comedy Guide website, he said: "I would go as far as to tell you that I attempted it last year, so I'm not always happy - this is the first time I've said this in public, but I thought I might as well.

"I'm president of Mind, and the whole point in my role, as I see it, is not to be shy and forthcoming about the morbidity and genuine nature of the likelihood of death amongst people with certain mood disorders."

Stephen, who said he broke four ribs and was unconscious after convulsions related to the overdose incident, said: "It was a close run thing."

"And, fortunately, the producer I was filming with at the time came into the hotel room and I was found in a sort of unconscious state and taken back to England and looked after."

The actor and comedian attempted suicide after walking out of the West End play Cell Mates in 1995 - an event he recounted in a documentary for BBC Two called The Secret Life Of The Manic Depressive.

I would be depressed too if I tried to commit suicide several times and failed every time. I can't imagine a more absolute level of failure.

An Australian DJ who prank-called a London hospital in a stunt that had tragic consequences when a nurse committed suicide has been named a "Top Jock" by his bosses.
Michael Christian's employer Southern Cross Austereo Tuesday said it was "thrilled" to crown the DJ, who now works on Melbourne's Fox FM mornings slot, as one of its top presenters.

Christian endured a global backlash, along with his then co-host Mel Greig, in December when their prank call to a hospital caring for the pregnant wife of British royal Prince William ended so badly.

Indian-born nurse Jacintha Saldanha transferred the hoax call from the DJs pretending to be Queen Elizabeth II and William's father Prince Charles to a colleague who divulged details of Kate Middleton's severe morning sickness.

The broadcast of the call made global headlines and Saldanha was found hanged three days later.

Australia's Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said the award was in poor taste given the circumstances.

"I think there's a bit of bad taste involved there," he told Melbourne radio station 3AW on Wednesday.

"There were some very serious consequences of what was a prank, and to be seen to be rewarding people so soon after such an event, I think, is just in bad taste."

Christian hinted at the incident in his acceptance of the prize, which comes with a trip to Los Angeles for a studio tour.

"From the start I felt like I had something to prove to myself," he said in a statement.

"That regardless of all that's happened in the past few months I'm still at the top of my game. So it felt good to see my name at the top of the final leader board."

Grunting or screaming in women's tennis is nothing new. Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka being two of the loudest in the game is nothing new either. But when the two of them came together in the women's semi-final at Roland-Garros, it was the noisiest encounter I had ever heard.

The screams just went on and on - not just at the point each hit their shot, but still when the ball was on the other side of the net, almost on the strings of their opponent's racquet.

It was Sharapova who most caught me by surprise. Although she is a screamer, she was Azarenka's equal - or perhaps even more prominent - in the way she hit the ball. Her squeal was much longer than it's ever been.

It became intolerable by the end.

It was a terrific contest and constantly absorbing, even if there were numerous errors from both players, a three-set match which could have gone either way until the end. But it looked like the crowd were drifting away from it and were disconcerted by the noise. A lot of them were shaking their heads. Accordingly, it didn't have the atmosphere that it might have done. It was quite unpleasant.

And was Sharapova louder than usual yesterday? Only she knows what happened - but it came across to me that there was definitely a statement being made: 'I am not going to be upset by your noise and in fact I'm going to make even more noise.'

Equally, perhaps she was just so intense going into the match that she could not help herself. As I say, only she knows.

It wouldn't be a surprise if Sharapova is a little quieter in the final, when she meets Serena Williams on Saturday. I don't think she'll be quiet - just quieter. But then it's likely to be a very different sort of match. Unless Serena implodes she is going to win the final.

The WTA intend to try to tackle the problem with new arrivals into the game.

They've obviously taken the view that they can't - or won't - do anything about the likes of Sharapova and Azarenka. Are they really going to do something with the youngsters? I hope so - because at the moment it's a turn-off to the tennis.

The proof is in the pudding, and I'm not optimistic about it. They seem unable to get a firm grip on the players about anything, whether it's the grunting, or the toilet breaks, or slow play.

Last month, Ethiopia started diverting waters as preparation to construct a major dam on the main tributary of the Nile. About 85% of the Nile waters flow through Ethiopia before reaching Egypt, which claims a right to 90% of Nile waters.
On May 28th, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi was caught on open mic discussing various plans to send special forces to destroy the dam, or sending jet fighters, or supporting rebel groups in Ethiopia. Ethiopia also plans other dams, as does Uganda (currently negotiating with China to provide financing).
More details.

The parents of a murdered university graduate have called for tougher EU immigration controls as her Polish murderers faced life sentences.

Rafal Nowak, 31, spent months plotting with his secret mistress and her uncle the death of his girlfriend Catherine Wells-Burr, 23, so he could benefit from her £123,000 life insurance.

He has been convicted of the business analyst's murder at Bristol Crown Court, along with lover Anna Lagwinowicz, 32, and her doting uncle Tadevsz Dmytryszyn, 38.

Speaking after the case, Phil and Jayne Wells-Burr said Nowak would not have been allowed into the UK if the country had tougher immigration laws. The factory worker was convicted in his homeland of assaulting his wife, whom he abandoned with their now-teenage son in 2008 to move to the UK to earn money to pay off a £6,500 debt following a drink-drive crash.

Mrs Wells-Burr, 46, said: "There is no screening of people coming into this country. We didn't know that Rafal had had an assault charge on him while back in Poland. I kind of think this Government needs to wake up a bit." Mr Wells-Burr, 48, added: "That is what we need in this country now."

Burly and heavily-tattooed Nowak killed Miss Wells-Burr as she slept in bed at their new build two-bedroom home in Chard in Somerset on September 12. The factory worker had meticulously planned the murder with jealous Lagwinowicz and Dmytryszyn, who helped remove Miss Wells-Burr's body from the house.

The body was driven to a roadside at Ashill, near Chard, and placed in the driver's seat before the vehicle was set on fire at 6am - 20 minutes after Nowak clocked into work at Numatic International, makers of Henry vacuum cleaners.

Nowak and Lagwinowicz, who had been in a two-year relationship, met up for sex and to plot the case on up to 87 occasions and exchanged hundreds of phone calls. They spent months leaving a false trail for detectives, creating fake profiles for Ms Wells-Burr on adult websites and sending texts to her phone from a supposedly mystery lover.

Speaking afterwards Mrs Wells-Burr said the trashing of their innocent daughter's impeccable character proved how "calculating" they were. She said: "The hatred shown to her has truly shocked us, especially the hatred shown by Rafal Nowak, a man who was meant to have loved her. His betrayal to our family has devastated us."

During the trial, Nowak, of Willow Way, Chard, Lagwinowicz, of South Street, Taunton and Dmytryszyn, of Holway Avenue, Taunton, denied having any part in the murder. But the jury found them guilty and they will be sentenced on Monday morning by Mrs Justice Sharp.

A gunman has been killed by police after a shooting spree that ended with four victims dead in the Californian city of Santa Monica.

Santa Monica police chief Jacqueline Seabrooks said the rampage began just before noon on Friday when emergency calls reported shots fired and a house on fire.

Officers arriving at the scene found a home engulfed in flames. The bodies of at least two men - said to be related to the gunman - were discovered inside.

There are unconfirmed reports the pair were the man's father and brother.

A woman was also found shot in the arm in a car outside the home and was taken to hospital.

Chief Seabrooks said the shooting continued as the gunman, dressed all in black and wearing what appeared to be a bullet vest, stole a vehicle and travelled west from that scene toward Santa Monica College, randomly shooting and killing several people on the way.

The gunman sprayed a city bus with bullets, injuring at least one woman on board, and shot at several other cars as he made his way onto the community college campus.

The man shot at a police car and at officers before being chased into the school's library, where the suspect was killed after a shoot-out.

One woman was shot on the campus.

Chief Seabrooks said the unidentified gunman, described as a white male between the ages of 25 and 35, was armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.

One eyewitness said he "looked like a member of a Swat team".

A second "person of interest" was arrested but later released as police said the gunman acted alone.

Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre confirmed it received three victims, one of which was the deceased victim. One other is undergoing surgery, and another is in serious but stable condition.

The campus was put on an immediate lockdown after the shooting, and other schools in the area were closed off.

The situation unfolded about three miles (5km) from where President Barack Obama was appearing at a fundraiser, but the Secret Service said the incident did not affect his trip aside from his motorcade route being slightly altered.

Santa Monica College, which has 34,000 students, is in the middle of final exams.

Student Isamar Ortiz said he was in the campus' library when shots rang out.

"We didn't know what it was until somebody started screaming and saying that there was shooting and when we heard that there was shooting we just immediately got up and got out of the building," he said.

"Everyone just rushed outside and we didn't know what was going on until they told us there was a shooting in the front of the library."

Another student, Chad Lazzari, described the scene in the library as chaotic.

"As soon as people realised it was gunshots and it was real there was immediately a lot of panic. One of the doors wouldn't open so a lot of kids were panicking against a locked door and funnelled around to the other side," Mr Lazzari said.

A woman who was on the bus that was shot told local TV station KTLA 5 that a man got out of a car as the bus was stopped at a red light and began shooting across the driver's side.

She said the passengers began screaming and dropped to the floor, and that one female passenger was hit.

The American, who won her first title at Roland Garros in 2002 against sister Venus Williams, out-hit Sharapova, who was looking to become the first woman since Justine Henin in 2004 to successfully defend her title in Paris.

The defeat also means Sharapova will lose her world number two ranking to Victoria Azarenka when the new rankings are released on Monday.

But the day belonged to Williams.

"It was very difficult," she said. "After 11 years it's incredible. Thank you to the crowd. I want to come back here and win again. I think I'm Parisienne."

Sharapova said: "She's been playing so well throughout the year and throughout the tournament. Congratulations to her. This court has brought me so many nice memories - last year was so special. I'll be back next year to try to win again."

Sharapova had received a battering at the hands of Williams in the Madrid final just a few weeks ago and it looked as though the Roland Garros final could follow suit when the Russian quickly found herself three break points down in the opening game.

Sharapova battled back with some quality serving to hold from 0-40 down before breaking the Williams serve in the second game to get off to a lightning quick start.

For all the talk of Williams being the overwhelming favourite heading into the match, Sharapova clearly had a specific game plan and was determined to do anything she could to change a run of 12 straight losses to the American before this final.

But it was a slow start from Williams and once she hit her stride in the third game, it took most of Sharapova's energy just to stick with the American.

Williams broke back immediately in the third game, with a smash winner, before sneaking ahead with a second break in the fifth game when a brutal forehand return of serve forced a forehand error from the Russian.

Sharapova did get the break back in the eighth game, pushing Serena wide on four consecutive points and drawing the error from the American's forehand on all four of them.

But once again Williams broke again in the very next game, an angled forehand winner across court doing the damage this time, before serving out the set at the second time of asking when Sharapova went wide with a backhand.

The second set was slightly more straightforward, Williams breaking early - again in the third game - and the American's relentless pressure eventually proved too much for Sharapova as she sent a forehand long down the line.

And this time that one break proved enough. Although Williams threatened to break again in the ninth game, Sharapova held firm to deuce to force the American to serve it out.

Credit should go to Sharapova who produced a lesson of her own in displaying all the best battling tennis and 'never give up' attitude she could muster.

But in the end Williams was simply too strong and sealed victory with her 10th ace after one hour and 46 minutes.

David Davis has told Sky News that allegations Britain's eavesdropping centre secretly gathered intelligence through a controversial US spying agency are "quite extraordinary".

GCHQ is to give a report to parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) "very soon" over links with the US Prism surveillance system and claims it has been accessing information about British citizens through the body.

The big question is whether this was authorised by the Government.

Mr Davis, a former shadow home secretary, said he suspected Home Secretary Theresa May and Foreign Secretary William Hague previously knew about the Prism.

"Presumably they at least would have had to sign an authorisation for this to take place.

"(There were) nearly 200 British citizens under surveillance of one sort or other in one year so they must have known something about it."

The Tory MP told Sky News the monitoring programme appeared to allow the state to "spy on who they like" and if reports were accurate then "it is actually quite a scandal".

"The sort of surveillance the Americans are applying against British citizens is illegal for them to apply against their own citizens; their own constitution stops that happening," he said.

"In the absence of parliamentary knowledge approval by a secretary of state is a process of authorisation, not a process of holding to account. Since nobody knew it was happening at all there is no possibility of complaint," he added.

The Guardian said it had obtained documents showing that GCHQ had access to the Prism system since at least June 2010.

The Prism programme was set up by America's National Security Agency (NSA) as part of its anti-terror measures. Its existence was revealed this week.

According to the newspaper, the documents show that the British agency, based at Cheltenham, had generated 197 intelligence reports through the system in the 12 months to May 2012.

It said the Prism programme appeared to allow GCHQ to circumvent the formal legal process required to obtain personal material, such as emails, photographs and videos, from internet companies based outside the UK.

GCHQ said in a statement that it operated within a "strict legal and policy framework".

"GCHQ takes its obligations under the law very seriously," it added.

"Our work is carried out in accordance with a strict legal and policy framework which ensures that our activities are authorised, necessary and proportionate, and that there is rigorous oversight, including from the Secretary of State, the Interception and Intelligence Services Commissioners and the Intelligence and Security Committee."

The existence of the Prism system was disclosed by The Guardian and The Washington Post.

Under the programme, the US government is secretly tapping into the servers of nine internet giants, the reports said. The companies include Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, AOL, Skype, YouTube and Apple.

President Barack Obama has defended the programme, saying: "Nobody is listening to your telephone calls."

With the new revelations about GCHQ, the row is growing.

"The ISC will be receiving a full report from GCHQ very shortly and will decide what further action needs to be taken as soon as it receives that information," said the committee's chairman Sir Malcolm Rifkind.

International Development Secretary Justine Greening told Sky News: "We have a security service that plays a lead role in keeping our country and people in our country safe.

"Clearly some questions have been raised about how those operations take place. We have a process for looking at that. The intelligence and Security Committee will be getting its report so that it can start to form its own views on this, on behalf of parliament."

Liberal Democrat Julian Huppert, a member of the Commons Home Affairs Committee, said he hoped to force the Government to respond to an urgent question on the issue in Parliament on Monday.

"We have to understand exactly what information they have had and what the safeguards are. It's deeply, deeply alarming," he said.

Nick Pickles of the civil liberties campaign group Big Brother Watch said questions needed to be asked at the "highest levels" to establish whether British citizens had had their privacy breached "without adherence to the proper legal process or any suspicion of wrongdoing".

"There are legal processes to request information about British citizens using American services and if they are being circumvented by using these NSA spying arrangements then that would be a very serious issue," he said.

A woman who pelted Simon Cowell with eggs during the live final of Britain's Got Talent has apologised and admitted her actions were "silly".

Viola player Natalie Holt was bundled off stage by security guards after running to the front while finalists Richard and Adam sang an operatic version of The Impossible Dream.

The 30-year-old musician's band Raven Quartet was part of the orchestra accompanying the Welsh opera brothers during their performance on Saturday night.

She was reportedly a contestant on the show last year and was not put through during auditions.

In a statement issued by a BGT spokesman afterwards, Ms Holt said: "I want to apologise to Richard and Adam for overshadowing their performance.

"I've never done anything like this before and in hindsight I have realised it was a silly thing to do."

BGT said police were called after Ms Holt's "misguided actions", but added that it would not be taking any further action against her.

Cowell, who had subsequently removed his jacket, attempted to brush off the episode with a joke.

He said he had previously tweeted that he did not like eggs and added: "I really don't like eggs now. I have no idea what that was about."

However, fellow judge Amanda Holden appeared furious, and reacted: "The only person with egg on their face is the stupid cow who threw the eggs."

Comic David Walliams, another judge tweeted: "Now you all know it is live...! One of the string quartet apparently. Well she has had her 15 seconds of fame...!"

Twitter was also awash with tweets from viewers reacting to the stunt.

One said: "Crazy egg thrower Natalie Holt highlighted a very serious security lapse - done them a favour could have been guns not eggs."

Another tweeted: "Still in shock about the egg incident. She look possessed!!!"

Richard and Adam, who did not stop singing during the egg-throwing, finished third overall in the competition - won by Hungarian shadow dance troupe Attraction.

The group, whose presence on a show supposedly highlighting native performers had led to criticism, won the public vote, picking up £250,000 and a slot performing at the Royal Variety Performance.

Teenage comic Jack Carroll, 14, from Huddersfield, who has cerebral palsy, was named runner-up.

A four-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a falling mirror at a designer outlet store.

The youngster suffered serious head injuries at the Hugo Boss store at Bicester Village, a designer outlet centre in Oxfordshire.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, but died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Detective Inspector Steve Duffy, investigating officer at Thames Valley Police , said: "We are currently investigating the circumstances of this boy's death and we would ask anyone who was in the Hugo Boss store at around 8.40pm on Tuesday to contact us as a matter of urgency.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this time."

A notice on the Bicester Village website said the store was "temporarily closed".

A spokesman for Hugo Boss said: "At around 8.30pm on June 4, a four-year-old child was injured by a mirror falling on him.

"Everyone is devastated by this tragic accident and we would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to his family. All of our thoughts are with them at this time.

"Hugo Boss will assist the authorities in any way with an investigation into the accident."

In a statement, the owners of Bicester Village - which has around 130 luxury fashion, homeware stores and restaurants - said: "We send our heartfeld condolences to the family and our thoughts and prayers are with them.

"The matter is now under investigation and there is no further comment at this time."

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said that it is not involved in the investigation into the death as shops are the responsibility of local authority environmental health departments.

[link inactive:404 - Page not found]Protesters Disrupts French Open Final

Four protesters, one letting off a flare, briefly interrupted the French Open tennis final between Rafa Nadal and fellow Spaniard David Ferrer on Sunday.

The first manifestation of the protest was a series of banners raised in the higher tiers of the stadium.

One couple were seen holding a banner stating, in French, 'Help! France tramples on children’s rights', with another also brandishing the slogan in English.

After a brief interruption in play, they were escorted from the stadium. Several minutes later a more sinister protest halted play, a topless man wearing a face mask intruded on the court brandishing a flare.

As smoke billowed through the court, he was immediately dragged away by security. 'Kids rights' was scrawled on his chest.

"The situation is under control. It is in the hands of the police," Christophe Fagniez, tournament director of operations, told reporters.

The man is believed to have been part of the 'Homen' movement, which has protested against equal marriage laws recently passed in France.

An AFP journalist spoke to one of the protesters outside the stadium, who said “we are protesting against the Taubira law because we fear for the future of our children”.

Christiane Taubira is a French politician who recently proposed the law allowing same-sex couples to marry.

Six other protesters, also bare chested and brandishing flares, got to the top row of the neighbouring Court Suzanne Lenglen unfolding a banner saying 'HOLLANDE DEMISSION' (Hollande resignation') before being bundled out by security.

Last month, French president Francois Hollande signed into law a bill allowing same-sex marriage amid a series of huge, and sometimes violent, demonstrations from many conservatives in France.

The first same-sex marriage was celebrated in Montpellier on May 29.

Jeremy Irons is beginning to make a habit of expressing his controversial views on controversial subjects.
The star of films like 'Die Hard With A Vengeance' and Adrian Lyne's adaptation of 'Lolita' has now weighed in on the on-going sexual abuse scandals involving TV stars of the 70s and 80s.
In one of his more inflammatory remarks during an interview with the Sunday Times, Irons described the girls of the 70s as 'goers'.
“I mean look at 'Top of the Pops',” he said. “What were those girls doing there? What did they want, the lot of them, when they hung around the caravans and trailers afterwards?

“There was a sort of sexual freedom. To have all that dragged up for something relatively innocuous - that’s tough. They seem to be in a mood to pillory anybody.
“There is a blanket term for child abuse, and if the worst thing you have done was put your hand on someone’s thigh under their skirt, that may be sexual abuse, but it’s not like buggering a nine-year-old boy.”
Irons, who is 64 and married to actress Sinead Cusack, added that he felt 'incredibly sorry for... the television guy on Coronation Street', referring to William Roache, who is facing several charges of abuse of girls aged between 11 and 16.
He then went on to say: “I mean, Jimmy Savile - well, I won’t go there because that just sounds appalling, but... one hears that [sexual abuse] mostly happens within families, anyway. And I haven’t seen Operation Yewtree getting many fathers or mothers.”
It's not the first time – or even the first time recently – that Irons has shocked with his views.
Earlier this year, after being asked his thoughts on gay marriage, he mused rather strangely on what effects loosening of the law might have, including whether fathers might be allowed to marry sons for tax purposes.
“I worry that it means we change or debase what marriage is,” he said. “Tax-wise it's an interesting one. Could a father not marry his son? It's not incest between men. Incest is there to protect us from inbreeding. But men don't breed, so incest wouldn't cover that.”
He said in a later interview with the BBC that he wished he'd 'buttoned his lip' over the remarks.
“I think gay marriage is wonderful. I think any reason that holds anybody together in a relationship is great,” he said.
“If it works as glue, if it makes you feel better, if it makes you feel you love your partner more, then great.”
He may, however, wish he'd also 'buttoned his lip' over these latest comments.

And the luxury mod-cons don't end there. The press of a button transforms the motorhome into a 'Sky Lounge' complete with pop-up cocktail bar, underfloor heating and marble lighting.
It won't surprise many to learn that the extravagant vehicle was created in Dubai, where they're not exactly known for doing things by halves.

A spokesman for creators Marchi Mobile said: 'People never fail to notice innovation, but rarely does the excitement for it last.
'That is how it began for us. But now - after many years of development - we sparked a fire in luxury mobility.
'The eleMMent series from Marchi Mobile is a new class within the premium segment of vehicles, targeted to enthuse lovers of the extraordinary.
'Our goal has not only been to introduce a new line of luxury vehicles - but usher in a new era. This is done by a perfect masterpiece that sets itself apart at first sight.'

A newborn baby was thrown down a five-floor rubbish chute by her mother in an attempt to kill her, a court has heard.

The six-day-old girl from Wolverhampton is alleged to have been wrapped in material and dumped down the 40ft tube which ran down the family's tower block, hitting a metal deflector at the bottom at over 30mph which left her with several skull fractures and brain injuries.

Jaymin Abdulrahman, 25, initially told police that her daughter had been kidnapped by strangers in September last year, but the baby was found a few hours later, apparently lifeless, by the father at the bottom of their block of flats.

Abdulrahman, who is on trial at Birmingham Crown Court, denies charges of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

In his opening speech, prosecutor Andrew Smith QC told the jury: "The reason why she decided to place her daughter in the rubbish chute may be never be known or understood.

"However, the prosecution say that her intention can be clearly identified from her actions."

Abdulrahman allegedly tidied up her flat after dumping the baby girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The court was told that pieces of a broken Moses basket were found in a bin at the bottom of the chute, and bits of wood were discovered inside the flat.

A crash dummy test was carried out by experts to reconstruct the fall, and the jury was shown computer-generated images of that experiment.

Using a dummy of a nine-month-old child and a chute with a 44ft vertical drop, Mr Smith revealed that the estimated speed of impact with the metal deflector that is used to slow down pieces of rubbish was 32mph.

Speaking in court, Mr Smith compared it to "having been in a 30mph car crash without wearing a seat-belt."

The Quebec Soccer Federation recently enacted a ban on Sikh turbans, patkas, and keskis from being worn during organized soccer games. Since their religion does not permit Sikh boys to remove their headgear, they were left unable to play. The Quebec federation claimed it was a safety issue, and that FIFA, which governs world soccer did not endorse the wearing of these types of things.
[In fact, FIFA held no position that they are allowed, nor that they were not allowed, and they had been worn without any fuss up until the Quebec ban.]
So anyway, a few days ago, the Canada Soccer Association responded by suspending Quebec's federation, prohibiting them from participating in or hosting inter-provincial matches and national competitions, such as all-star games and the Canadian championships. They also may not participate in international matches, and cannot have national or international referees officiate their games. They are also blocked from international soccer clinics and CSA meetings and activities. At least 20 out-of-province teams have withdrawn from a tournament in Montreal this weekend.
The Quebec federation claimed that it had just been needing clarification from FIFA. It has not yet stated that it will remove its ban.

Four men including a police officer have been taken to hospital after being stabbed in a mosque in Birmingham.

The police constable was responding to reports that three men had been stabbed inside the mosque in the Ward End area of the city when he was attacked.

The four are being treated in hospital for their injuries. They are all said to be "stable".

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in custody.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 11pm on Saturday night to a mosque in Washwood Heath Road, Ward End, to reports of three men with stab wounds.

"Officers arrived at the incident and whilst the man was being detained, one police officer suffered a stab wound.

"The three people and the officer have been taken to hospital, all are currently described as stable."

Officers are investigating whether the attack was a hate crime.

"We don't know at the moment, it's very early stages in the inquiry," the spokeswoman said. "We can't rule anything out at the moment."

Mohammed Shafiq, the leader of national Muslim organisation the Ramadhan Foundation, expressed "deep concern" over the stabbings.

He said: "Our immediate thoughts are with the victims injured and their families.

"It is too early to speculate on the circumstances of the stabbings but we must be clear there should be no place for this sort of violence in our country. There will obviously be people who will try to take advantage of this tragedy but we must not allow them to succeed."

A number of mosques have been targeted since the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby close to his barracks in Woolwich, south London, last month.

The killing also sparked a large increase in anti-Muslim incidents in the days that followed, according to the organisation Faith Matters, which works to reduce extremism.

In what were believed to be reprisal attacks, the Islamic Somali Community Centre in Muswell Hill, north London, was burnt to the ground while the Grimsby Islamic Cultural Centre was also targeted by arsonists who threw petrol bombs.

Last week, Muslim groups called on authorities to take serious action against the wave of anti-Islamic attacks.

in London, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe responded by saying extra resources would be deployed to sites deemed to be "at greatest risk".

Andy Murray has defeated defending champion Marin Cilic to win the Aegon Championships at Queen's, a Wimbledon warm-up.

Murray rallied to beat Cilic 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in a rain-delayed final, winning his third title at Queen's.

The British number one missed the French Open with a back injury.

He looked a little ragged as he lost the opening set to the world's number 12, but battled back to win the match after a little over two hours and 30 minutes.

Murray, 26, also won at Queen's in 2009 and 2011.

Wimbledon begins on June 24.

After 71 days on the road 24-year-old Paralympian Ryan Chalmers has complete a 3,000-mile journey across America.

Chalmers went from Los Angeles to New York by wheelchair, finishing in Central Park on Saturday, hoping to inspire others with disabilities.

"I didn't even know how far across the country is. I didn't think too much about it at all," Chalmers told the Guardian. "I just knew I wanted to make a difference and that's the perfect way to do it."

Completing around 50 miles a day, Chalmers crossed 14 states on the coast-to-coast epic, before being welcomed to the finish by cheers.

"You see a little kid at the finish line who’s just smiling at you ... it makes everything else go away," said Chalmers. "It makes the injury and pain go away. For me that’s what helped me push through."

Having suffered with spina bifida since birth and not having full use of his legs, Chalmers is used to coping with the condition - but the 14 flat tyres to his chair during the trip, and the time he found himself doing 65mph on a particularly steep downhill stretch of road, were amongst some of the challenges that tested him to his limit.

Chalmers represented the US at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, returning without a medal. In the men's marathon, remembered on these shores for David Weir's impressive gold medal, Chalmers was 28th, the last man in the field to finish and a full 18 minutes behind. But the American said of this challenge that this latest feat had shown him that the sky was the limit.

"If you’re passionate and set goals for yourself you can achieve anything," Chalmers said.

A British tourist has survived a plunge from the 15th floor of an apartment block in New Zealand.

Tom Stilwell, 20, who is in the country on a working holiday, is said to be in a "satisfactory" condition in hospital after sustaining neck and back fractures and a broken wrist.

It is believed he may also have some internal injuries after the fall in Auckland.

According to the New Zealand Herald, Mr Stilwell's flatmate, Dave Thomas, 22, said his friend was speaking, although unable to remember falling from the building.

"He's absolutely fine ... He's a very lucky man," Mr Thomas said.

It is reported that Mr Stilwell had been out drinking with pals and had returned alone to his city centre apartment but was locked out.

He woke a neighbour in the flat directly above and asked if he could use her balcony to access his.

According to the paper, Geraldine Bautista, 28, said Mr Stilwell was "a little bit tipsy".

"I wasn't scared of him - he just requested 'can you please let me jump off from the balcony? I will not bother you just let me use your balcony ...'

"I never thought he would really do that. In my mind I thought 'Okay, I'll just let you see that it's really impossible (to gain access to his apartment)'. I didn't think he'd jump, because it's really scary."

Before she could react he had one leg over the railing.

"I asked him 'Are you all right? It's unsafe to jump over the rail'."

Describing the fall she said Mr Stilwell slipped from her grasp and plummeted "like a paper falling".

"He never said anything ... I grabbed his hand and then at that time ... he fell down. I thought I was dreaming. It happened so fast. It happened within seconds. I couldn't even scream for help."

He landed on the roof of an adjacent building after plunging about 13 floors.

St John Medical Director Dr Tony Smith told the paper that surviving falls from such heights was "extraordinarily unusual" but that the roof of the low-rise building far below likely broke Mr Stilwell's fall enough to save his life.

Mr Stilwell was at first listed as being in a critical condition but has improved to a satisfactory condition.

Nine people charged in VA and NY, with current search warrants in 30 more stores around the country.
Among the charges--25 identities stolen, including children and dead people. The workers were forced to live in housing owned by the accused, and required to pay rent in cash. Millions of dollars were generated by the scheme.

A teenage boy and girl from the same school have died after being hit by a high-speed train in Hertfordshire.

The youngsters - named as 15-year-old Charleigh Disbrey and Mert Karaoglan, 18, - are believed to have climbed over a fence close to Elstree and Borehamwood station.

There are no level crossings near the station and the deaths are not being treated as suspicious.

Miss Disbrey, a singer whose music videos have been viewed thousands of times on YouTube, was in year 10 at Hertswood Academy in Borehamwood.

Their headteacher, Paul Gillett, said: "As a close community, obviously we are devastated by this tragedy. Both students were talented, hard working and well respected members of our academy.

"Our thoughts are with their families at this most difficult time. We are supporting our students and staff in coping with this terrible loss."

Friends of the two teenagers paid tribute to the pair on social networking sites.

One Twitter user wrote: "I'm actually so shocked. I saw them walking together like nearly everyday on the way to Hertswood. They looked so happy. #RIP"

Another said they would both be missed, adding: "I hope heaven looks after you."

"I will never forget you and the memories we made," a friend of Miss Dibrey posted on Facebook.

"At peace and with the angels. God bless," wrote another.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said both teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the two teenagers involved in last night’s tragic and acutely sad incident," Superintendent Phil Wilkinson said.

"Although my officers are continuing their investigations, as part of our work to prepare a file for the local coroner, there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and no one else is believed to have been involved."

The empty First Capital Connect train was travelling from St Albans to Sutton when the youngsters were struck.

A spokesman for the train operator said: "This was a shocking incident and our hearts go out to all those involved."

Wow, I just saw a segment on the news -- I hope I remember these numbers right.
L.A. has a population of 4 million and 4 structure fires a day.
Detroit has dropped from a population of 1,800,000 to 700,000, has all those abandoned houses, and has 30 structure fires a day, 90% of them arson.

A teacher who fled to France with his pupil and spent a week on the run has been jailed after admitting five counts of sexual activity with a child.

Jeremy Forrest, who was convicted by a jury yesterday of abducting the schoolgirl, pleaded guilty to the additional charges and was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison.

He insists he still loves the youngster, who broke down in tears and told him she was "sorry" as jurors returned their verdict on Thursday.

A judge at Lewes Crown Court said Forrest, of Petts Wood, London, "chose to ignore the cardinal rule of teaching" by starting a sexual relationship with the teenager shortly after her 15th birthday.

Rumours of their relationship surfaced in February last year, when the pair were spotted holding hands during a flight on a school trip to Los Angeles.

The girl, now 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted having a crush on Forrest, who taught at Bishop Bell Church of England School in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

They exchanged flirty text messages, tweets and photographs but denied any wrongdoing when pressed by the school.

Fearing their relationship was about to be exposed when police were alerted last September, Forrest abducted the youngster and took her on a cross-Channel ferry to France, where they spent a week on the run.

The couple dyed their hair, assumed false names and dropped a mobile phone into the English Channel in an effort to avoid being caught, but were tracked down after a Europe-wide search.

During his trial, the prosecution labelled 30-year-old Forrest a "paedophile" and said he "groomed" the vulnerable teenager.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Ling, of Sussex Police, said: "As a teacher, Jeremy Forrest was in a position of responsibility, authority and trust over the children in his care, which included this young, vulnerable victim.

"He grossly abused the trust placed in him and his actions caused distress and anxiety amongst parents, family members and the school community."

A spokesman for Bishop Bell School said the staff had only "very limited anecdotal hearsay and no evidence of relationship" when concerns were first raised.

He said that before Forrest fled the country, the school had intended to remove him from the classroom while an internal investigation into possible professional misconduct was carried out.

The spokesman said staff remained "deeply shocked by the actions of Mr Forrest and his betrayal of the trust that was placed in him".

"It is important that the strongest possible message is sent to all who work with children that they hold a position of responsibility and trust for the lives, and wellbeing, of those in their care," he said.

"We take our responsibility extremely seriously and our safeguarding policies and procedures are robust.

"However, we are determined to implement any learning from these events to ensure that all pupils at the school are as safe as they possibly could be."

The schoolgirl abducted by paedophile teacher Jeremy Forrest told how she still loves him and said she had been old enough to make decisions for herself.

Forrest, 30, was jailed for five and a half years for child abduction and five charges of sexual activity with a child.

The girl apologised for fleeing with him to France when she was 15, but said her feelings towards Forrest had not changed.

She told The Sun: "I would like to make it clear that despite the outcome of the trial, my feelings towards Jeremy remain the same, and regardless of unfair and inaccurate speculation, those feelings will not change.

"I am very sorry to those who have been profoundly affected by the things that I have instigated and the consequences of my actions."

The girl thanked her friends and family for their support and for respecting "the decisions that I have made throughout this process, of which they know I was fully capable of making".

During the eight-day trial at Lewes Crown Court the jury was told that Forrest groomed the schoolgirl into having sex with him before taking her to France as he attempted to avoid being caught.

The girl's mother told the court "the (daughter) I knew is dead and it upsets me beyond words".

In a statement she said: "I feel completely useless most of the time. I feel like I have failed as a parent as I cannot understand how someone could do this to my child and I had no idea."

She continued: "I feel like the worst mother in the world, whatever anyone else says it doesn't matter. Someone has got my child and I never saw it coming and never saw it as it was happening. I feel like part of (her) childhood has been robbed from me - the last day at school, dressing her up in a party dress for the school prom, all taken from us."

Cycling - Ullrich finally admits doping, says it wasn't cheating
Disgraced former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich has admitted that he underwent blood doping procedures under the guidance of a Spanish doctor at the heart of a major drugs scandal.
By Eurosport / Reuters – 8 hours ago..
The 39-year-old German, who was banned for two years in 2012 for a doping offence, had previously confessed to having contact with Eufemiano Fuentes but consistently denied being illegally assisted by the doctor.

On Saturday, however, Ullrich was quoted in German weekly news magazine Focus as saying he had been helped by Fuentes.

"Yes I did undergo Fuentes's treatments," the 1997 Tour de France champion said. "Almost everyone took performance-enhancing substances back then.

"I did not take anything that the others did not take. Cheating starts for me when I gain an advantage. That was not the case. I wanted to have equal chances."

Ullrich, who was among his country's most popular athletes before his doping past unravelled, said he had he used his own blood for the treatment and that he was "no better or worse" than Lance Armstrong.

"I always knew Lance Armstrong would not get away with it, even if he was probably for years protected by one or the other institutions and the world governing body," he said.

"Neither of us thought we were guilty of anything. I'm not better than Armstrong but no worse. The great heroes of the past are today people with flaws with which we must cope. "

"This is too little, too late," German Olympic Sports Confederation president Thomas Bach told reporters. "Jan Ullrich had his chance for a creditable admission a couple of years ago and he missed it.

"Today's confirmation of some of the already well-known and established facts does not help Jan Ullrich nor cycling," Bach, a candidate for the International Olympic Committee presidency, said.

Fuentes, at the centre of a much-publicised trial in Spain earlier this year, told the court that as well as cyclists, his clients included football players, athletes, tennis players and boxers.

The Operation Puerto scandal broke in 2006, when Spanish police launched raids that uncovered more than 200 code-named blood bags, some of which were linked to cyclists.

Ullrich, who retired in 2007 after also winning gold and silver medals at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, remains the only German to win the Tour de France.

In February 2012, Ullrich was found guilty of a doping offence by the Court of Arbitration for Sport and retroactively banned for two years from August 22, 2011.

In addition to the ban, all results after May 2005 were removed from his list of achievements.

WTF Overload. Putin may declare war to save the world. Monsanto's global monopoly of seeds and destruction of the bee population, water, and food supply may make it more dangerous than anything else in the world, and in America it bought some protection: the Monsanto Protection Act.

Some oppressive regimes are running out of water. Underground aquifers they use for agriculture are one-time use, like oil. We are solving that problem by copying their laws and oppression tactics (such as abortion and militarized police).

There is a trend of requiring prisoners to pay expenses of incarceration. I don't know where it started, but Macomb County started doing it twentyish years ago. Knoxville TN will soon follow. That is a predictable result of the drug/race/poverty war draining the budget, but it's also a scumbag move. Our prisons are concentration camps for poor people.

^ I hate outlawing in general.
And some hard porn I dig would probably be ruled as too hard, while I've seen the performers quite a few times and how they always want to fuck the shit out of each other. Unless you're into porn, or harder sex, these scenes will come off as violent, but in reality they're just very passionate and romantic in their own right.

Polygamy in Utah became somewhat more legal, since a judge overturned the state law against "religious cohabitation." That reminds me of what I have wondered about sororities: how do they get enough bathrooms for all those women?

Bestiality is legal in 14 states and DC, but that will soon be down to 13. doesn't say which 13, but keeping it legal in DC is an interesting aspect of the federal government.
