Despite being technologically savvy, I feel like Iím falling behind the times. Iíve got porn DVDs, but itís clear that technology will render them obsolete like VHS tapes. What does everyone else do?

I like to watch porn on my tv. My tastes run towards having some plot, so the clips sites donít hold a ton of interest for me. Do I:

- get a streaming service? (Ones available for tv seem very limited)
- buy dvds, convert them and play them through a flash drive?
- something else?

[no tube sites]

I watch most of my porn on my 55" TV and are the two most common methods I use:

1-I save on a portable HD all my porn and I have a streaming device that can interact with the portable drive so all I do is take the drive near my TV and connect it to the streaming device.

2-Of late I transfer the videos that I want to watch onto a USB Key or USB Keys and plug these into my Smart Tv and watch the videos.

I stopped buying DVD's a years ago because it's so much faster and cheaper to simply join the various sites whose porn I enjoy.

I watch on my laptop. I'm too lazy to hook up my HDMI cord from my PS4 to the laptop to view it on my 42" TV. My laptop screen is a decent size. I don't buy DVDs anymore. I just download scenes directly to my laptop.

While we are on the subject of flash drives, what is the perfect flash drive to buy in order to put a good amount of videos on it? Ive been looking into it but alot of reviews of different brands have been not so good. Things like the transfers are slow, it doesnt take long for the flash drive to get overheated, and files can either easily be lost or files sometimes disappear then reappear at various times. So I just want to know what brand of flash drives are the best to get? Im looking for a good size too like at least a 200gb flash drive.

I've never had any problems with name brand drives, such as Verbatim, Lexar, PNY, and SanDisk. You mention looking for a thumb drive with at least 200GB capacity. The largest I've seen are 256GB. FYI, because of the technology, capacities are in powers of 2, i.e., 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, and 256. I've got some older 64GB drives, but I far prefer the 128 and 256GB drives, due to their larger capacity. For me, the only problem with the 256GB drives is that they rarely go on sale. I buy thumb drives only when they go on sale, never paying more than half-price. With back-to-school sales starting up, now's a good time to keep an eye out for good sale prices.

Not having read the reviews you referred to, about slow transfer times, I really can't comment too much on that. Other than that anybody complaining about slow transfer times should have been there during the days of 300 baud dial-up modems and 360KB floppy drives!!! If I've got a lot of files to transfer, I just go do something else while they transfer, and don't worry about it. It's a one-time operation. However, if your PC/Mac support USB 3.0, then a thumb drive that supports USB 3.0 will result in a much faster transfer than a thumb drive that supports USB 2.0.

As to files disappearing, then reappearing, I've never encountered that. However, I ALWAYS eject my thumb drive before physically removing it from my PC. Doing so ensures that everything that should be written to the thumb drive has been completely written. Not doing so can easily lead to corrupted files, making them unwatchable.

From the paysites I download from, I tend to stream them from my desktop to my games console hooked up to my TV.

I haven't bought a DVD in years as I feel VOD/subscriptions offer better value for money and convenience.

Classic porn features are being re-released on Blu-ray, VOD & DVD, check the movies section. Mucho titles, something for everyone

DVD isn't going anywhere, it stills outsell BD & 4K BD by 65%.

It's a tried & tested format.

Thanks for the input. From what Ive read SanDisk seems to be the most reliable out of all the name brand drives. Im thinking about getting me a 256gb SanDisk drive to store alot of my videos on. Maybe it was just me looking too heavily into all the reviews because there will always be negative reviews about everything. As for sales you are right but I get mine off Amazon and they typically have them for good prices too. Btw I have a Windows 7 so it should be alright with the flash drive. I only truly used a flash drive maybe a small part of time when I was in college I believe but other than that I really dont use flash drives. I just want to start using them to clear space on my computer while having my videos on a flash drive.

^ 256 gigs won't hold much. You should probably think in the multiple terabytes for videos.

+1

Something like a 2 terabyte portable drive would be a good start.
I've had several - the Western Digital one are my preference (they own Sandisk incidentally)

I don't recommend flash drives beyond temporary storage for porn. I would say that in today's age of HD video, you're definitely better of with higher capacity hard drives for long term storage. 3.5" hard drives are probably more reliable than ever. I haven't had any failures in a very long time. I admit, I've had a few 2.5" bite the dust but I think that's caused by me moving them about a lot more.

SSDs will cost you a lot more on a $ per GB price point against a hard drive but they're generally much quicker to read from and write to and they are much more resistant to damage from being moved about.

The advantage of USB Flash drives is the compact size and portability. The downside is very slow speed (compared to HDD and SSD). It is just the nature of the technology. Another downside is they are easily lost/misplaced because they are so small, unless you are extremely diligent about keeping it in a safe/fixed location.

Regarding SSD vs HDD... SSD is more expensive per GB but has much faster read/write times. "Higher end" computers will have the operating system and programs on SSD (for quick bootup/shutdown) and have the bulk data (documents/pics/vids) on HDD. IMO it's not practical/feasible to store Terabytes on porn on SSD, Unless you have lots of spare money.

Another idea is to get an entertainment/media PC dedicated to TV viewing. Practical if all your video viewing is on one main TV.

^ I think the entertainment/media PC may be more spending than necessary. With programs like Universal Media Server, an old Core i5 (maybe even a Core i3) PC with 8GB RAM would be enough to turn an old laptop or desktop into a home server. With that setup, a purchase of a cheap Android box or Raspberry Pi can bridge that PC to a a dumb TV or if you have a PS3, XBox 360, PS4 or XBox One, they all have applications that can playback from UMS.

^True, the DIY approach would be less expensive.

Thank you everyone for the good suggestions. I have an older SSD in an external enclosure. I think Iíll start with that and move to something more elegant.
