^ ADT-related: take professional fighter retirements like porn actress retirements.

"Whether this retirement is real or not time will tell but for right now it seems the jury is out."

“There is a less than one per cent chance that Conor McGregor, 30, has really retired from MMA.”

“It is a pissing contest between McGregor and UFC president Dana White that has been going on for some time.”

“McGregor seems to hold all the cards where his services are concerned. The UFC has never had a star like him and is sorely lacking headline-grabbing names at present. He is intent on dictating terms for his next fight. But White has never accepted anything less than absolute power in his operation and though McGregor gets special treatment, he doesn’t get a free ride.”

“McGregor and White have always had a solid working relationship, publicly at least. White still needs McGregor’s pulling power, with the UFC lacking genuine mainstream stars. McGregor has an untapped fortune and the consolidation of his legacy within reach by making peace with White.

White claimed in response to McGregor’s retirement announcement that the decision “totally made sense”. Both men are playing it cool, neither willing to openly admit the truth.

They need each other, still, and surely their power struggle will soon reach an amicable and lucrative conclusion.”

This is the main one for me. You have to remember, McGregor has now lost three of his last five bouts, and hasnt won a bout since late 2016. And it's not just Khabib, there are now other lightweights he would probably struggle against.

"3) BELIEVE: He knows he’ll never beat Khabib

Five months ago, the question of the best UFC lightweight in the world was still an open one. Now, we know the answer. Nurmagomedov outwrestled McGregor and even dropped him with a punch. Grappling has always been McGregor’s weakness, and Nurmagomedov is quite possibly the best-ever lightweight grappler. There are certainly adjustments that McGregor can make, and perhaps he can delay the inevitable. But it’s hard to see how he gets up to speed with Nurmagomedov in such a short time. And with his former head coach John Kavanagh hedging on working with him again, he could lose the team that pushed him to incredible heights during his heyday.McGregor is loathe to be anything other than the alpha wherever he goes. Could he stand to stick around as the No. 2 to Nurmagomedov? Doubtful."

Added missing words.

I am seriously considering boycotting this bout as my own personal protest.

"Lesnar has not fought for the UFC since 2016 when he won a decision over Mark Hunt. That result was later ruled a no contest when Lesnar failed a drug test related to that bout. Lesnar has not won a fight inside the octagon since 2010. He lost his two bouts before the Hunt matchup"

And this man is now offered a world Heavyweight title bout?

Understandable, but Holly Holm has actually lost 3 of her last 4 bouts.

"Also on the card, a headlining light heavyweight championship tilt between reigning champ Jon Jones and top-three contender Thiago Santos."

^ Anyone see the UFC today?

Adesanya-Gastelum was the bout of the year. At the end of the 1st and 4th rounds Adesanya was on the ropes, Gastelum raised his arms expecting a coming win. But the final round Adesanya was in control. Gastelum was gone, don't know how he held on.

Dustin Poirier has apparently booked a title bout with Khabib.

^^ The headline bout needs further discussion. It was originally meant to be Ronaldo Souza vs. Yoel Romero, with the winner "promised" a title bout. But Romero had to pull out due to injury several weeks prior, so Hermansson was brought in as replacement. Souza ended up losing to the replacement. And he's pushing forty.

^ It actually wasn't me, it was the article. He actually fights under the name Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza. I've only been following UFC for a couple of years, I did not know that. Thanks.

If you're an old time UFC fan, thought you might be interested to know Anderson Silva is scheduled to compete in the next UFC.

So after keeping the premier title on hold because Lesnar
might come back, they have let him make a joke of the UFC HW title. So now the UFC will let Stipe Miocic have his rematch.

^ Some online comments (with one a little ADT-related)

I think Brock was never serious about returning to fight DC. He seen that DC had KO power up at HW and wanted no part of it. Especially since DC likely would’ve won in the grappling/wrestling/ground areas as well. He was probably trying to leverage a better WWE deal. Seems like Vince may have called his bluff

By TheChrish

Agreed, never really bought it.

Where’s that sassy little bitch, Baycuck? He was so deeply invested in fellating Brock that he took personal offense when others doubted his triumphant return to real fighting. This is where I’d laugh in his ... face for being a simple minded mark but I’m not petty like that.

"Dana will announce the first ever UFC triple threat fight, DC vs Stipe vs Brock for the Heavyweight championship"

"Brock lesnar retires because the usadas piss test machine exploded"

"Brock sucks ass and hasn't won a fight in a decade, but he sells tickets. Stipe can't sell water in the desert, so they will cave and pay Brock what he wants"

UFC 237. Rio

Anyone see the UFC just gone?

Alexander Volkanovski had a comprehensive defeat of local legend Jose Aldo. A title bout against Max Holloway should be next. (Maybe in his homeland.)

Anderson Silva took a kick to the knee and just collapsed. "After writhing around in pain, Silva managed to get back up to his feet and while many had feared another broken leg, the man confirmed it was a knee injury.

“In training my knee was already a little bit bad. And I took a kick to it and it couldn’t hold up,” Silva said."

Rose Namajunas was picked up and slammed on the top of her head. She was knocked out. Andrade celebrated. Commentating DC said that Namajunas didn't let go of her opponents arm, causing her to land on the top of her head rather than on her back. Thankfully Namajunas came too and was all fine.

"Strawweight
Jessica Andrade defeats Rose Namajunas via KO

Middleweight
Jared Cannonier defeats Anderson Silva via TKO (injury— R1 4:47)

Featherweight
Alexander Volkanovski defeated Jose Aldo via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3)

Welterweight
Laureano Staropoli defeated Thiago Alves via unanimous decision (30-27 x 2, 29-28)

Bantamweight
Irene Aldana defeated Bethe Correia via submission (R3, 3:24)"

Megan Anderson makes her return to the UFC this weekend. (Ummm... on the prelims... of a Fight Night?)

In a pre bout interview on the incident,:
"Anderson’s first UFC win against Cat Zingano wasn’t the celebratory affair it should have been. When an Anderson kick grazed off her eyelid, Zingano found herself unable to continue, giving Anderson the TKO victory after a mere 61 seconds.

“It was just a weird set of circumstances that that specific thing happened. Anyone in this game knows you can’t typically try to put your toe in someone’s eye. It’s a one-in-a-billion kind of circumstance.”

.... But that didn’t stop a baffling onslaught of naysayers and armchair critics from deriding her completely legal win, despite her repeated offers to Zingano for a rematch."

UFC 238. Chicago.

Anyone see the UFC just gone?

With the Tuivasa-Ivanov bout, I really have to wonder about the future for Tuivasa. He has no ground game, and in this bout he really had no stand up striking defence. He was just taking the punches.

Shevchenko gave Jessica Eye a series of body kicks, then gave a head kick. Eye had dropped her arm to protect the body and was struck flush on the head. It knocked her unconscious for at least 10mins. The Cejudo-Morais bout was amazing. In the first round Morais was delivering killer leg kicks, Cejudo had no defense; he looked gone. But from the second it completely changed. Morais ran out of gas and was being brutalised.

Cejudo went on to become the fourth UFC fighter to simultaneously hold two belts. But, Cejudo also has an Olympic Gold Medal (wrestling). After the victory he was wearing all three.

main card results:

Henry Cejudo def Marlon Moraes (TKO)

Valentina Shevchenko def Jessica Eye (KO)

Tony Ferguson def Donald Cerrone (TKO)

Petr Yan def Jimmie Rivera (UD)

Blagoy Ivanov def Tai Tuivasa (UD).

Prelims.
Tatiana Suarez def. Nina Ansaroff via decision (unanimous) (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Aljamain Sterling def. Pedro Munhoz via decision (unanimous) (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Alexa Grasso def. Karolina Kowalkiewicz via decision (unanimous) (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Anyone see the Ngannou - Dos Santos bout just gone?

I don't know what Dos Santos was doing trying to head punch. I thought it would be all kicks and trying to get Ngannou to the ground.

"Dos Santos swung with a wild right hand that Ngannou evaded before [he] landed several heavy right hands that dropped his opponent to the canvas before he delivered some quick hammer shots as referee ... stop the fight."

UFC MINNEAPOLIS FIGHT RESULTS

Francis Ngannou def. Junior dos Santos by TKO at 1:11 of round 1

Joseph Benavidez def. Jussier Formiga via second-round TKO (strikes) (4:47)

Demian Maia def. Anthony Rocco Martin via majority decision (29-28 x2, 28-28)
