And there's no two ways about it, that was complete and utter destruction.

^ Adrien Broner's last two bouts were a draw and a comprehensive loss.

Hey, don't give up. France's Mary Pierce was born in Canada. So, it is possible to be born in Canada & win a major singles title.

"Manny Pacquiao still packs a punch at age 40 - even if he couldn’t completely put away Adrien Broner in a one-sided affair in Las Vegas.
The eight division world champion showed he’s still a world-class fighter by never giving a strangely-inactive Broner a sniff to win a unanimous decision (116-112 x2, 117-111)."
"The Filipino legend, now 61-7-2, will receive a guaranteed purse of $14 million plus a percentage of the profits which is expected to reap him at worst another $14 million.
Broner was somewhat lucky to be offered a shot at Pacquiao’s WBA title after going winless in his past two appearances against Mikey Garcia (unanimous decision loss) and Jessie Vargas (majority draw)."
I think it's called hand picked.

^ $14M guaranteed purse shows how popular Manny still is in the boxing world. I don't think many folks have Manny on their Top 20 active pound-for-pound list, definitely not Top 10 PFP.

^ Well, it's actually 14M purse plus min. 14M percentage of profits.
Yeah, it looks like he's just taking on hand-picked opponents.
When the Pacquiao team agreed to the bout with Jeff Horn, they never thought Horn had a chance.

NFL Network announced yesterday that they will broadcast 19 Alliance of American Football games. The first will air February 10 at 8pm. Then tbey will air games Saturday and Sunday at 8pm. CBS will broadcast the inaugural game February 9 at 8pm and will show the playoffs. I have no idea if it will be good football cuz the players in the league are basically NFL rejects but at least its football so I will check it out. I would be shocked if it was worse than the XFL cuz that was beyond awful football.

The AAF kicked off tonight with the San Antonio Commanders defeating the San Diego Fleet 15-6 and the Orlando Apolos beat the Memphis Express 40-6. I watched some of the San Antonio San Diego game and it was pretty terrible football especially the QBs. Idk how long this league will last. The jerseys are ugly and made by Starter so they were a thing in the 90s.

^One of of the problems with the NFL is that there is not enough talent on all teams to play at the pro level. The AAF, now that I've read up on them, is being far humbler than the XFL was, but that simple fact -- that these are guys judged not good enough, or, are working towards getting to be good enough, to play in the NFL -- is still a fact that plagued the XFL and that these guys will have to face as well.

^ Yeah that is true. It will be interesting to see how the product is as the season goes on. The XFL got worse and worse. The ratings were strong. CBS drew 2.9 out rating the NBA game (Houston/OKC) on ABC 2.5. I'm not shocked cuz foootball is king but the XFL had huge ratings in Week 1 then they went down the toilet. It will be interesting to see the rating tonight on NFL Network and next week. They will be lower cuz CBS is not showing another game until the playoffs which I think is a mistake cuz not everyone has NFL Network. CBS should have showed some Saturday night games and a few games Sunday afternoon. I will check out the game on NFL Newtwork tonight. I'm hoping it will better than the game I saw parts of last night.

Sophomore Danielle Gibson of the Arkansas softball team (NCAA) had an incredible night last night and did something that's been done only once in NCAA Division I history and never in MLB...she had a home run cycle. She is the only player in NCAA softball history to do it in four innings. Four HR ties the NCAA softball record. Gibson hit home runs in the first (2 run HR), second (3 run HR), third (grand slam) and fourth (solo HR), innings. The game ended (Arkansas won 15-3; Gibson had 10 RBI along with the 4 HR) before she could bat in the fifth because of the mercy rule.

Excerpts from the article:

In just five short years, Brigitte Thibault has gone from swinging her first golf club to hitting shots competitively on the most famous course in the world.

The 20-year-old from Rosemere, Que., is one of 72 female golfers competing in next week's inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur and is the only Canadian in the field.

Good get 'em, Brigitte! The country's cheering for you!

Bon allez-y, Brigitte! Le pays vous encourage!

^ I was just about to mention this!

Tiger captures his first major in 11 years and has the longest gap in Masters history between wins (14 years). It was a great tournament to watch!

"Crawford threw a left hand that hit Khan on his right hip and Khan retreated toward his corner. After taking a couple minutes trying to shake off the pain, his corner told the referee that Khan couldn't continue."

"Referee ... didn't appear to see the final one that hit Khan ... low. Khan could have taken five minutes trying to recover, but his trainer ... made the decision before then that Khan was finished."

Interesting. I would've thought a low blow that made your opponent quit would see you disqualified.

^ If anyone has followed women's tennis you might be interested to know that the Australia-Belarus tie included former World #1 and US Open finalist Victoria Azarenka, making a return after having a child, and former US Open winner (and World #4) Samantha Stosur.

Interestingly, as opposed to Davis Cup - where it's singles on Friday, doubles on Saturday, reverse singles on Sunday - the Fed cup plays the singles on the Saturday, the reverse singles on the Sunday, and only if the tie is still live, the doubles on Sunday.

Excerpts from the article:

Maximum Security led the Kentucky Derby every step of the way except for the last one -- into the winner's circle.

The colt became the first winner disqualified for interference in the Derby's 145-year history, leading to an agonizing wait and an eventual stunning reversal that made 65-1 shot Country House the winner Saturday.

Country House finished second in the slop before objections were raised, causing a 22-minute delay while three stewards repeatedly reviewed different video angles before they unanimously elevated him into the winner's circle.

^×4 "... the US TV networks took over.

With Wilder contracted to Showtime, Joshua tied to DAZN and Fury given an £80million deal by ESPN, we are being fed a series of one-sided sideshows.

Having invested fortunes in the big three, the idea is to make as much money with them as possible, for as long as possible with the least danger as possible."

From the comments.

"TV companies are worried their cash cow will lose in which case they to will lose money so the fights that actually matter won't happen, then of course you have boxers like Canelo who has lost a fight or two yet the judges ensure he comes out the winner, this has happened on a number of occasions so is this bad judging or TV networks paying off judges to ensure they can still make millions from their cash cow."

"so too was the thinking that chubby guys don’t knock out chiseled Adonises with three of the four major heavyweight belts."

"none of ... [this] would have been possible if he had listened to detractors who criticized him for his body frame. Always one with plenty of meat on his bones, Ruiz once weighed 324 pounds in the amateurs, and turned pro at 297 pounds.

“At one moment I wanted to give up because I was listening to those doubters tell me you’re too big to be on the big stage, you’re too big to become a champion,” "

"He had been in talks with Snickers for a sponsorship deal since before the fight, and had intended to eat one of the candy bars before the New York Commission informed him that eating prior to the fight was barred. " Huh?

"A full-time senator in his native Philippines, Pacquiao appears to be a different fighter from the one who was beaten to the punch repeatedly in a 2017 disputed decision loss to Jeff Horn in Australia that saw Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach suggest retirement.

The fight against Thurman (29-0, 22 KOs) is expected to be a pick 'em"

What's a "pick 'em"?

Having 9 wins at the age of 21 is impressive. Holding the record for tour wins by a Canadian not so much. Henderson seldom takes a week off. She loves to compete. There is a lot of burn out and short careers on the LPGA tour. It will be interesting to see how long Henderson will be at it.
