The basic idea here is that the federal government and the state government are each separate sovereign entities, and are each entitled to pursue their own interests.

The dissenters were Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Neil Gorsuch. Bader "argued that the separate sets of rights for each form of government was intended to secure the rights of the people, not to allow the further prosecution of crimes." Gorsuch wrote that a “free society does not allow its government to try the same individual for the same crime until it’s happy with the result.”

This leaves Paul Manafort with the prospect that even a pardon of a federal conviction would leave him open to state charges, which cannot be pardoned by the president. It would also apply to other individuals who may have been relying on pardon power.

^ I don't think the court has had the chance to rule on whether a sitting President can be prosecuted in State (or municipal) court. It would be ironic if they said, "No" given that ruling.

Still, if the question came before the current court vis a vis Trump, I don't think we need to wonder how they would rule.

Excerpts from the article:

In a test of resolve and credibility for the United States and Iran, the two adversaries have taken steps sure to further inflame tensions in the Mideast and draw them closer to a flashpoint.

Iran announced it was breaking compliance with the international agreement that keeps it from making nuclear weapons and the Trump administration followed by ordering 1,000 more troops to the Middle East.

The Pentagon said Monday that the deployment includes security forces and troops for additional surveillance and intelligence-gathering. It represents an escalation of American military might aimed at deterring Iran and calming allies worried about the safety of strategic shipping lanes .

I'm glad reporters aren't letting this story die. Yes, the boys did admit their guilt, but they were later exonerated by the confession of the actual rapist, as well as a DNA that positively confirms his confession. Of course, Trump won't back down from his belief that the kids were guilty, despite the evidence that proves conclusively that they were not. The President of the U.S. wants innocent people killed because he wrongly stands behind their guilt, despite evidence proving the contrary. This is the nightmare we're living in.

Everyone on TV and newspapers are calling Goblin's Orlando rally the "kickoff of his 2020 Campaign" What in the Blue FUCK.

HE. HAS. NEVER. STOPPED. CAMPAIGNING. LITERALLY.

Already it is painfully obvious that the so-called LIBRUL MEDIA is going to bend over for Goblin and echo the same bullshit narratives the same way they did in 2016, while ignoring real issues.

^ Here you go.

"The idea of an official campaign "launch" was somewhat incongruous given Trump has essentially been on a permanent campaign footing since his November 2016 election victory.

He has held over 50 campaign rallies since he became president and almost always covers the same rhetorical ground."

("An estimated 20,000 people ... hear Trump's speech, with supporters sleeping outside overnight to ensure they made it into the arena." That cannot be true?)

The reality is media companies are businesses. They of course have to present themselves as made up of high brow journalists full of integrity, but at the end of the day, they exist to make money.

I don't think most people consider a confession given under duress to be an "admission". It might be more accurate to say, "Yes, the boys provided the police with confessions that were later used against them in court, [...]."

The entire article:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his meeting with FM45 in Washington on Thursday will be an opportunity to talk about China and global issues set to be discussed at next week's G20 leaders' summit in Japan.

Speaking before a meeting with his Liberal caucus today, Trudeau says the two leaders will discuss the challenge China poses to global trade, as well as to Canada and the United States.

The Canadian government has been calling for China to release two Canadians whose detentions are largely viewed as a retaliation for the arrest of a Huawei executive in Vancouver at the request of the U.S.

Countries including the U.S., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, and the U.K. have spoken out in support of the detained Canadians.

Trudeau also says trade will be a big part of the meeting with FM45 as both countries look to ratify the new NAFTA.

He says Canada is still trying to keep in step with the U.S., adding he has the ability to recall Parliament this summer if needed to ratify the trade pact.

I just heard someone who got their own tix and attended this rally say:

- 120,000 people registered for tickets
- people travelled from all around the state to attend
- some people camped outside for two days

OMG!

^ If one has a ticket to the event, why would one need to camp outside? smh. Unless it's general admission. If that is the case, why would one need to be right in front? FM45's dentures might land on your lap!

Biden (who's son died of cancer): "I want to find a cure for cancer."
Trump Jr.: "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU DO THAT OVER THE LAST 50 YEARS, JOE!"
Idiots in audience: WOO HOO!!! TRUMP! TRUMP! TRUMP!

Trump Sr.: "We will come up with the cures...to many, many problems...to many, many diseases...including cancer."
Idiots in the audience: WOO HOO!!! TRUMP! TRUMP! TRUMP!

This is how people who are brainwashed react. They are unable to spot when the object of their affection is being hypocritical. It's a sickness.

President Chump's so-called "base" thinks he's more popular than Jesus. What does that say about their credibility?! That's why his approval ratings have never risen above 50%. Fortunately, he can't win re-election with just these idiots backing him up. That's why it's important for the Dems to take control of the election narrative and stick it to this corrupt asshole once and for all. If not, America isn't worth shit any more.

In deed it is.

"Images taken on Monday of the scene outside of Orlando's Amway Center ... did, in fact, show dozens ... of Trump supporters lined up outside the venue, with a series of tents set up on the sidewalk.

Some ... had even been waiting outside the facility for more than 40 hours in anticipation of the president's rally"

Somehow I don't think Trump voters are well versed in the finesse of irony. But hey, maybe that's just me.

^ Yesterday a rally attendee was asked why they support Trump. He said: because he cares about the common man. I was wondering if that was joke.

It's a joke, but they aren't in on it.

If there was a real thought bubble above tGrump's head while he was speaking at a rally, he'd be toast.

I wonder how many of those morons were paid by the Trump campaign to show up for this rally? Afterall, Trump is supposedly a "billionaire" and can afford to pay for his adulation.

, SS

It is both worship and an addiction.

Kanye West - "He made me feel like Superman"

Scott Brian Haven, made over 2000 calls threatening Democrats, and Christopher Hasson prepared to commit mass slaughter, , all of these guys are True Believers. The White Supremascists, the Preppers, the Patriarchs...he's their Messiah. So this is no difference from the mass crowds that have come out for Popes or for Billy Graham.

Also SS, I don't know if you're aware but the Panhandle northern portion of Florida (except for Tallahassee) is very Republican. It is strongly influenced by its proximity to Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

^^ No i didn't know that. Thanks. So that's why some people travelled from all over the state, and camped outside for two days.

Thinking about it some more, and following on from your comments, i remembered something. Travelling home I would go past my city's major music venue. Now it was usually all reserved seating. But in the early afternoon, many hours before the show, i would see fans waiting outside the locked gates. I couldn't figure out why.

Once I was going to a seated show with someone who was a lifelong fan of the performers, and they were adamant that we had to get there hours before the show started, and lineup outside before the doors opened - alongside the other fans. I said to them: Why? It's reserved seating.

I now get it. Waiting outside hours (overnight, days) before an event, is just something obsessive fans do; it's a representation of their obsession.

Yet ANOTHER rape accusation. The number of women accusing him of rape or sexual assault is being reported as low as 16, and as high as 23. Even on the low side, that is a shitload of accusations. I believe these women.

^True, and that's just one reason why I am constantly disappointed when these accusations come up in the media that it doesn't lead to a drop in his approval ratings. In my mind, rape and sexual assaults are extremely serious crimes, nearly on par with murder in many cases, so it's disappointing that so many Americans choose to look past that. Of course, some of them believe all of the women are lying. I guess if there were 2 or 3 accusations or less, there may be some reasonable doubts about guilt. But when the number of accusations is as high as Trump's, at least some are telling the truth.

I also guess that for many Trump supporters, they simply don't care. If they're aware of the accusations, they try not to think too much about it because it makes them uncomfortable. Or they might know of the accusations, but they simply don't care if they're true or not.

And there are also Trump supporters who believe the accusations, and it makes them like Trump even more. They actually enjoy having a president who is a rapist. Granted, they are probably a tiny minority, but they exist.

"A prominent writer goes public to accuse the President of the United States of raping her in a department store dressing room. In theory, this should be an explosive, probably career-ending, allegation.

For most politicians it would be.

But when it comes to Donald Trump, there is no guarantee the accusation ... will cause him any serious damage. It's possible we won't even be talking about it a week from now."

"Sexual assault allegations have ended the careers of many prominent men, including Democratic senator Al Franken. He was forced to resign in 2017 after he was accused of forcibly kissing a woman and pretending to grope her breasts in a photo.

The allegations against Trump are far more serious, yet he remains in the White House, seemingly immune to the laws of political gravity."

^^The reason why it won’t hurt his approval ratings is that MAGAts lack a sufficient set of morals, are pathetically ignorant, or both.

Those who don’t read or watch the news so much don’t know the sheer number of accusations of assault and rape. I do believe many of them would turn on Trump if they knew how many accusations have been made against him, but they just don’t hear about it because they’re pathetically ignorant. They get their news from bad sources, or they don’t get it at all.

I believe there are many Trump supporters who are just evil. Some just will not accept the fact that 16-24 women were raped or sexually assaulted and believe that every single accuser is lying. Or worse, they might believe that some of these women are telling the truth, but they really don’t care. These fuckers are scum, but seem to make up a large part of the MAGAt base.

When Hillary was called out for saying some of Trumps supporters were in a “basket of deplorables”, she was being far too nice. Being merely “deplorable” would be a few steps up for most of them.
